Evil Nerds, New Starbucks Cups, & The Ocean’s Twilight Zone
Kathleen opens the show drinking a No Jacket Required Czech-style Pilsner from the Savannah River Brewing Company in Augusta, which she finds to be delicious. She reviews her shows and all the fun that she had last weekend in Augusta and Charleston, with highlights being touring the Charleston City Market and meeting podcaster/reporter Mandy Matney at the Charleston show, and spending a day seeing the historical sites in Augusta amidst a Mary Kay convention.
EARNING THE PINK CADILLAC: After experiencing the exuberance of the Mary Kay convention attendees at the hotel in Augusta and seeing rows of sparkly pink Cadillacs, Kathleen researches the criteria that need to be met in order to be awarded one of the coveted vehicles.
“GOOD BAD FOOD”: In her quest for new and delicious not-so-nutritious junk food AND in continuing her search for the best Ranch, Kathleen samples Peeps Cereal, which she finds to be WAY too sweet (but she also hates Peeps Easter candy.) She moves on to taste Herr’s Loaded Tots flavored kettle chips, liking the crunch but thinks if you’re craving tater tots then just order those. She finishes with Taco Bell’s Creamy Baja Sauce, which she thinks is absolutely delicious and should be dumped on everything, and Hellman’s Jalapeno Ranch Sauce, which she likes but thinks it could use a little more “jalapeño kick.”
QUEEN’S COURT: Kathleen is amused when reporting that although Queen Dolly Parton has requested to have her name removed for consideration from this year’s Rock n Roll Hall of Fame voting, the Hall has announced that it cannot accommodate her request since the ballots have already been distributed.
UPDATES: Kathleen gives updates on Anna Delvey’s upcoming Art show, and WeWork’s Adam Neumann resurfaces.
“HOLY SHIT THEY FOUND IT”: Kathleen is amazed to read about the discovery of a rare rose-veiled fairy wrasse Rainbowfish living in the Maldives in the ocean’s “twilight zone.”
THE HAPPIEST COUNTRIES IN THE WORLD: Kathleen reads the results of a report ranking all 146 countries on their population’s overall happiness with the quality of their lives. For the 5th straight year Finland was crowned the Happiest in the world, and Lebanon was determined to be the “saddest.”
NETFLIX CRACKS DOWN ON SHARING: Kathleen laughs at the anticipated response from her parents when reading an announcement that Netflix is cracking down on members who share passwords to their accounts. Netflix will soon launch a test letting primary account holders pay an additional fee for users outside their households (BOO)
STARBUCKS TO ELIMINATE DISPOSABLE CUPS: Kathleen loves strong coffee, so she’s a regular to Starbucks while on the road. She’s been amused by all of the drama over Starbucks’ cups in the past, be the noise about the ill-fitting lids or the holiday cup designs, and laughs when reading the latest announcement advising that the coffee company is taking strides to eliminate their disposable cup altogether.
WARHOL’S MARILYN MONROE: Kathleen LOVES following the art world and is a big fan of Andy Warhol’s work. She’s excited to read that Warhol’s portrait of actress Marilyn Monroe will go up for auction in May with a record-setting estimated value of $200 million. “Shot Sage Blue Marilyn” is poised to be the most expensive painting of the 20th century ever sold at auction, according to Christie’s Auction House.
ABANDONED CANADIAN VILLAGE FOR SALE: Kathleen reads an article advising that the British Columbia deserted hamlet of Edelweiss is now for sale. It was built in 1910 for the Swiss guides and mountaineers who had relocated to help tourists traverse the Rocky Mountains.
WHAT TO WATCH THIS WEEK: Kathleen recommends watching “WeCrashed” on Apple TV, and “The Andy Warhol Diaries” on Netflix.
