Daylight Savings Time, Psychopaths, and Indigo Martians
Kathleen opens the show waving her twisty Bic lighter, which she now refers to as her “wand.” She has poured a spicy bloody Mary and added extra celery salt and Pepper Palace horseradish oyster hot sauce as approved by her favorite Texan, Ron White.
GAS STATION FOOD: In continuing her search for new and delicious not-so-nutritious fast food, Kathleen has discovered Jack in the Box Tiny Tacos and Cocoa Crisp M&M’s. She goes on to discuss her extreme love for vinegar-based Carolina bbq, and states that even though she’s never tried a McDonald’s McRib, she can’t imagine going to that restaurant for any bbq sandwich.
SPORTS and FANTASY FOOTBALL LEAGUE UPDATE: Kathleen’s favorite St. Louis Cardinal player is Kolten Wong, who has just had his 2021 contract option denied by the team and she is devasted. She goes into past examples of players that the Cardinals have broken ties with, and the horror of watching these players move on to beat the Cardinals and win World Series rings.
Kathleen then provides an update on her beginner Fantasy Football league, and her friend and fellow manager Drew’s latest strategy of drafting 5 tight ends and 2 kickers.
DOLLY PARTON QUOTE: Kathleen reads a Dolly Parton quote that offers the key to a successful marriage.
MOTHMAN DOCUMENTARY: As a follow up to Pubcast Episode Four’s introduction to West Virginia’s Mothman, Kathleen tells listeners of a new documentary that has been released entitled “The Mothman Legacy.” In this new film the director delves into the history of the Mothman, investigating its long legacy in Pleasant Point, WV and interviewing more recent eyewitnesses.
MH 370 UPDATE: Kathleen is obsessed with missing Malaysian Flight 370 (as is depicted in her “Malaysian Flight 370” bit from her Bothering Jesus special) which disappeared in 2014 with 239 people onboard. Key experts involved in the search recently confirmed their belief that the Boeing 777 plunged into the South Indian Ocean about 1,300 miles off the coast of Perth in Western Australia.
JERRY FALWELL JR UPDATE: In Kathleen’s ongoing obsession with the drama surrounding Falwell Jr, she provides an update on the recent lawsuit filed by the ousted president of Liberty University vs the school and his absurd insinuation that The Lincoln Project was involved in his firing.
NXIVM CULT LEADER SENTENCED: Kathleen has a self-admitted obsession with Cult activity, and as a follow up to her discussion from past Pubcast episodes regarding the NXIVM cult, the HBO docuseries “The Vow” about the NXIVM and its leader and founder, Keith Raniere. After decades of abuse and manipulation, Raniere was finally sentenced in October 2020 in a New York courtroom.
PSYCHOPATHS vs SOCIOPATHS: Kathleen watches the HBO documentary “The Inventor,” about Elizabeth Holmes and her fraudulent company, Theranos. The company and its founder claimed to have revolutionized blood testing by developing testing methods that could use surprisingly small volumes of blood, such as from a fingerprick. Kathleen provides some background on Holmes, the foundation of her scientific platform, and the rise and fall of her Silicon Valley career leading up to her pending sentencing in Spring 2021. Kathleen discusses whether Holmes is a psychopath or a sociopath, and outlines the key differencesbetween the two personality disorders.
DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME: Kathleen discusses the history of Daylight Savings Time, and how the concept was derived by Benjamin Franklin in 1916. She reviews the good and bad effects of the time transition, both scientific and common opinions from her comedian friends, and asks listeners if they want to continue with this practice of changing our clocks or not. Kathleen reminds listeners to NOT blame the US farming community if they don’t agree with DST, and instead look for the positive ways that families can benefit from the change (ie: more Happy Hour time “in the light of day.”)
WHAT TO WATCH THIS WEEK: Kathleen tells listeners to watch “The Queen’s Gambit” on Netflix, as well as “The Inventor” on HBO or Hulu.
MYSTERY OF THE WEEK: Kathleen discusses the mystery behind a 23-year-old Russian genius who claims to be from an extinct Martian race. Boriska Kipriyanovich still lives in Russia, and his mother has provided claims of his extraordinary abilities to speak, read, and write in an advanced state since he was just a few months old. Boris has spoken of life on Mars since childhood and states that there are many Martian children like him who have been sent on the same mission from outer space. These reincarnates of the Martian Race are commonly referred to by other space creatures as “Indigo Children.”
