[00:00:00] What you want, when you want it, where you want it. This is The MESH.
[00:00:11] Footcandle Films Film news and reviews from two guys who really like movies.
[00:00:30] Hello everyone and welcome to Footcandle Films here on The MESH.tv podcast network. My name is Alan Jackson.
[00:00:42] With me across the table is Chris Fry, and we are the co-directors and co-founders of the Footcandle Film Society
[00:00:49] and the annual Footcandle Film Festival which Chris, is that coming up anytime soon? I'm not sure.
[00:00:56] Yes, it is. It'll be here before you know it. Yeah, recording on the 8th September 8th and it actually kind of gets rolling officially the 16th.
[00:01:06] We have a film live on the 15th so yeah it is coming. It is coming. Yes. So anyway we'll give you the website and information about that a little bit later in the show but yes.
[00:01:16] Film Festival time is here but that doesn't stop us from still taking time out to watch movies and to give you a review as we will do in today's show.
[00:01:26] So every time we get together we have a feature film that we're going to be discussing and reviewing for you, sharing our thoughts.
[00:01:34] And then we'll get in a little bit later as well into some movie news and I think maybe a trailer might sprinkle in.
[00:01:40] The new trailer for a film we're kind of interested in finding out about. Chris may have a recommendation to share of a film he thinks is worth checking out as well.
[00:01:47] So we'll do all that a little bit later but we are going to get to our first and main part of the show which is the review.
[00:01:54] Today we'll be reviewing the film Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Colin Mutant Mayhem.
[00:02:00] Another one of the long building title sequences that we have in our movies these days they seem to get longer and longer with more words than the title.
[00:02:08] It seems like but that is of course as you can probably tell from the title the latest Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie.
[00:02:14] We'll be discussing that in our review in just a second. So Chris are you ready to get started as we go into under the sewers to do a little discussion about the turtles?
[00:02:25] Cowabunga don't they say that.
[00:02:27] That is a thing.
[00:02:28] Did they say that before Bart Simpson or I don't know.
[00:02:32] I don't either.
[00:02:33] Well they do say it though.
[00:02:36] That question is going to be burning all day now to find out the answer but yeah let's discuss and maybe we'll figure it out in a little bit.
[00:02:42] Let's go ahead and get into our review of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Mutant Mayhem.
[00:02:50] Boys where are you being?
[00:02:54] We're just running errands.
[00:02:56] That's it.
[00:02:59] Look we're really starting splinter.
[00:03:00] Some of the guys wanted to get pizza and I tried to talk them out of it.
[00:03:03] You ready this out?
[00:03:04] Don't use that word that way.
[00:03:06] I mean it's 2020 day.
[00:03:11] Hey guys if we were monsters that were shunned by society and we could do what we wanted, what would you guys do?
[00:03:17] Go to high school.
[00:03:18] Maybe get a girlfriend.
[00:03:20] Can you imagine that?
[00:03:21] Not likely.
[00:03:24] Chris the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles kind of came into existence in pop culture.
[00:03:30] I think it was around 1990 if I remember correctly.
[00:03:33] I think there was a comic book which was kind of the first iteration then it turned into a cartoon series.
[00:03:40] Then it turned into a movie series and all of that hit I think early 90s kind of when that ball kind of big started blowing up.
[00:03:48] There's been many, many versions of cartoons and movies of these characters over that last 20 or 30 some years, 35 years.
[00:03:59] I'm going to go ahead and say it.
[00:04:00] I'm not a fan of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles as a concept.
[00:04:05] You know there's no way turtles could be ninjas.
[00:04:09] I'm pretty sure that I know that that's not possible but it's a no we really just kind of hit at an age where I was 18, 19 years old.
[00:04:17] I'm like okay yeah I'm not into this this is not my this is not my bag.
[00:04:22] I can't even tell you if I even really sat through any of the movies at all.
[00:04:30] I might have gotten dragged to the theater to go see the first one for some reason.
[00:04:35] I don't know why but I feel like maybe I've seen the first original one a little bit but there again I just the characters, the style of the movies.
[00:04:45] I've not had any interest and I absolutely have not seen any of them since then.
[00:04:50] Now my son I think might have had one of the one of the ones on DVD that came out like the CGI version animated one back when he was growing up.
[00:05:02] That was about it and again I didn't sit down and watch it.
[00:05:05] So that's all to say look I'm not a fan.
[00:05:07] We can't tell me hey this is a film we should review because we need to discuss this film.
[00:05:12] I'm not enthusiastic.
[00:05:15] So I went in trepidatiously to see Mutin Mayhem.
[00:05:20] Not terribly excited.
[00:05:22] Sure it is they film it was written by Seth Rogen having Goldberg and Jeff Rao which they have been working on various projects before this one.
[00:05:33] This is one that seems to be a little bit of a passion project for them to want to get into this universe and reestablish the teenage mutant in
[00:05:40] the Turtles for today's audiences.
[00:05:42] So the film follows the Turtle Brothers as they work to earn the love of New York City while facing down an army of mutants all head up by one titled Superfly.
[00:05:54] So with that Chris big lead up I've already set my position up on this film.
[00:06:00] I'm going to hear your thoughts.
[00:06:02] What did you think of Teenage Mutin and Turtles Mutin Mayhem?
[00:06:06] Is it making you a Teenage Mutin and Turtles fan or were you already a fan?
[00:06:12] I just didn't know this about you and you just continued that passion for this franchise.
[00:06:17] I was a fan of the video arcade game.
[00:06:20] Oh yeah I do remember that.
[00:06:22] I played it.
[00:06:23] The one where you could play four people and all.
[00:06:25] You could choose your turtle.
[00:06:27] I was a fan of that.
[00:06:29] The show I do remember the cartoon briefly.
[00:06:32] I maybe caught a few episodes.
[00:06:33] I don't know like you if I've ever seen the movies.
[00:06:37] If so, I think maybe I saw the first one at like a dollar theater.
[00:06:40] Yeah.
[00:06:41] I'm aware that apparently vanilla ice is in the second film.
[00:06:44] He's in Secret of the Oos and the only reason I know that is because I know his,
[00:06:49] I believe his song The Turtles Wrap was big on MTV when that movie came out.
[00:06:56] Okay.
[00:06:57] So I saw the music video, piano times, never saw the movie though.
[00:07:00] And I'm sure you still hum the song all the time.
[00:07:02] I could not tell you the first bar of that song at also.
[00:07:06] So you referenced how it's like hey Alan you know what was coming to choose a movie for this?
[00:07:10] He goes like hey we should probably see this.
[00:07:13] I had heard originally when I saw the trailer in theaters I had no desire.
[00:07:18] I was kind of surprised.
[00:07:20] I knew there'd been several movie versions.
[00:07:22] I was like really they're revising or reviving this.
[00:07:25] That's interesting.
[00:07:26] I don't know who their target audience is, like who would care about this?
[00:07:30] But the reviews this movie came out August 2nd.
[00:07:35] Here we are in September.
[00:07:37] I heard people saying hey it's actually pretty decent.
[00:07:41] Knowing that but people were heralding the animation style.
[00:07:45] And this coming in the same year that we've had Spider-Man across the Spiderverse.
[00:07:50] And so it's like you know that movie everybody was talking about how innovative even the second film was.
[00:07:55] And then people were saying hey well this is some pretty good competition.
[00:07:59] So yeah I was decided to check it out with you.
[00:08:03] I did like it.
[00:08:05] I think a big part of that probably is the animation style just because it was different to me.
[00:08:13] I don't think I'd really seen things like this before.
[00:08:17] So that made me appreciate it.
[00:08:18] And also without, I don't want to give anything away with the movie.
[00:08:23] I mean like you said it is kind of an origin story and the big bad guy is super fly.
[00:08:28] But the way they handled I guess good guy versus bad guy expectation from the cartoon
[00:08:35] I had in my head who was definitely good guys who were definitely bad guys.
[00:08:39] And they play with that a little bit.
[00:08:41] And I was like hey that is so not terribly beholden to the source material.
[00:08:46] Now I don't know if that's true to the comic books or anything.
[00:08:49] All I'm basing it off of is the cartoon and the video came.
[00:08:52] So but I appreciated that innovation to me.
[00:08:56] I was like oh okay awesome.
[00:08:59] So and I guess before throwing it back to you and some your thoughts
[00:09:03] because you kind of set up how you were feeling beforehand.
[00:09:06] And then I was like the animation start of me which I say is like the number one positive.
[00:09:10] To me it was if it was claymation but hand drawn on top of that.
[00:09:16] If that makes sense it was like hand drawn claymation which sounds kind of weird.
[00:09:20] Well I was going to describe the animation stuff for people listening.
[00:09:23] So yeah it is computer animated just going to get that out the way.
[00:09:26] But yes it does look as close as I think a computer well right now computers are can simulate.
[00:09:33] So the blend of claymation hand drawn look on top of CGI.
[00:09:39] So it's an odd look and I will admit the first couple of minutes is a little I had to kind of get my brain adjusted to it to see it.
[00:09:47] But after that yes I do really appreciate the animation style.
[00:09:51] I think it really helped the film.
[00:09:55] And you know yes it borrowed a little bit from the end of the spider verse.
[00:09:59] The original one kind of gave a blueprint for people to say hey look you know we can actually do animation with computers different.
[00:10:06] It doesn't have to be all these perfect surfaces and these glossy porcelain looking characters.
[00:10:14] You know we can have a little more interest in it and they did with this.
[00:10:17] I like the fact that it was basically the one style that they adopted for the film although they did bring in other media too.
[00:10:24] They were like live action clips and other things they brought in so it's had a little playfulness with the format too.
[00:10:30] But it worked it worked for this style movie and I think it worked really well there.
[00:10:34] I had a blast with this movie.
[00:10:37] Oh good I really liked this movie.
[00:10:39] I thought it was hilarious.
[00:10:41] I thought it was entertaining.
[00:10:44] Yeah no I just had I really had a good time with it.
[00:10:47] I think what worked with this film for me is going in with extreme little expectations.
[00:10:52] I was like that because I did.
[00:10:55] But the actors they had playing the four turtles.
[00:10:59] You could tell they were younger and they just had some great enthusiasm.
[00:11:04] You really got to know each of the four characters after a little while their personality types.
[00:11:10] I feel like it's the most defined that these characters have been from the little bits of things I've seen in other media.
[00:11:18] The humor is great. I don't know if I credit Seth Rogue and Evan Goldberg for that.
[00:11:23] I was assuming so as writers they brought that level of humor to it.
[00:11:28] Yes this is the PG movie but there was enough humor in it that crossed generations very easily.
[00:11:37] Now I will say there's a sequence in the film that's probably my favorite sequences.
[00:11:42] It's about a third of the way through the film.
[00:11:45] It is a montage fight sequence.
[00:11:47] I don't know if it was to the song No Diggity.
[00:11:50] It might have been.
[00:11:51] I think it was.
[00:11:52] But it was them kind of doing a beat down on some different crime bosses or crime people in the area trying to get.
[00:11:58] And just the way it was put together, it was funny.
[00:12:01] It was just really well done.
[00:12:03] It was kind of thrilling to watch.
[00:12:05] It was a great sequence.
[00:12:07] Once I got to that point in the movie, I'm like yeah okay I'm on board.
[00:12:10] I got this.
[00:12:11] But it was really fun.
[00:12:13] I really like what they did with, is it April as the character?
[00:12:17] Yes.
[00:12:18] April and Neil.
[00:12:20] Yeah it's it.
[00:12:21] She's a mainstay right?
[00:12:22] She's always been around.
[00:12:23] Not Puker.
[00:12:24] Puker.
[00:12:25] Yeah Puker.
[00:12:26] April and Neil she's been in the turtles universe for a while.
[00:12:31] I believe Seth seems to be getting it.
[00:12:33] Yeah I think so.
[00:12:34] She's kind of their human confidant, their partner.
[00:12:36] And a reporter, they play her as a high school student who's just really into journalism played
[00:12:43] by a Debrae from the bear.
[00:12:46] She's getting a lot of, and from bottoms that we'll be talking about here soon as well.
[00:12:53] And she's great.
[00:12:54] I love the depiction and style that they gave April and Neil.
[00:13:01] It just worked for me.
[00:13:04] So look, I really had a lot of fun.
[00:13:07] That was great.
[00:13:08] And according to the credits this is the first appearance of an actor named Paul Rudd.
[00:13:14] I don't know if you saw that in the credits it's like in introducing Paul Rudd as the gecko,
[00:13:21] Mondo Gecko.
[00:13:22] Yeah.
[00:13:23] Some really fun characters, some of the mutant characters Ray Phaley which I've said a blast
[00:13:30] with, always singing his name, played by Post Malone, which was kind of funny.
[00:13:35] Yeah.
[00:13:36] Paul Rudd as Mondo Gecko was great.
[00:13:38] And then he had Ice Cube as Superfly, the main villain which he seemed to be having a lot of fun with this as well.
[00:13:43] So yeah it was just, it was a fun movie.
[00:13:46] It was just unique enough to set it apart from what would have been any other CGI animated movie of this genre.
[00:13:56] Oh and Jackie Chan as Splinter, you know their father slash mentor.
[00:14:01] Sure.
[00:14:02] A very different depiction of Splinter from what I remember seeing another media.
[00:14:07] Yeah, I mean great.
[00:14:08] It's been a while.
[00:14:09] But yes, I feel like it was kind of an original semi-original take on that as well.
[00:14:14] Yeah.
[00:14:15] Overall, I had a really fun time with this movie.
[00:14:18] I'm actually kind of tempted to watch it again sometime.
[00:14:23] If they make a sequel, which I hope they do and kind of follow up, I'm totally on board with that as well.
[00:14:28] So yeah, bring it on.
[00:14:29] I'm a fan now.
[00:14:30] Well good.
[00:14:31] Good, good.
[00:14:32] I think you and I are both on the same page.
[00:14:34] To me what really helped was, as far as I know, I was unaware of the voice cast of the four turtles.
[00:14:41] They were as you mentioned like younger teenagers.
[00:14:44] It wasn't like, it was nice to have the main characters of the film not be voiced by actors you were familiar with.
[00:14:51] Because you know, often in these movies it's kind of stunt casting.
[00:14:54] The ones that I recognize right off the bat, you already mentioned IO Itabiri as April Nioh.
[00:14:59] And I thought she was good.
[00:15:01] I recognized Jackie Chan as Splinter, but I thought he was good because he's known to be kind of comedic anyway so that kind of helped.
[00:15:09] And my favorite cameo that was obvious because it was obvious it was the Paul Rud as Mondo again.
[00:15:16] Like he was still, I think he was actually playing with the Paul Rud persona being like Mr. Nice Guy and it like he seemed to be having a lot of fun.
[00:15:24] And so yeah, I really enjoyed that but I think having unknowns in the four main roles I think really helped kind of not distract you and not see this stunt casting.
[00:15:34] And I like you I was really surprised.
[00:15:37] I thought the only thing I would really get out of it was, okay, this was a truly innovative kind of animation style.
[00:15:43] But the movie was actually enjoyable as well.
[00:15:45] Yeah, it was good. It was a had yeah it had just enough heart to it which I mean animated movies.
[00:15:54] I mean, I think Pixar's taught us that you can still a level of heart end to just about any movie anytime.
[00:15:59] Sure.
[00:16:00] But this one, I think this one earns it by the end.
[00:16:03] I think I do buy it.
[00:16:07] But combining action sequences, which were really fun to watch with really good humor, which it was funny.
[00:16:17] With some good heart and emotion, which was just the right balance of it.
[00:16:22] Layer top of a very innovative animation style that was engaging capture attention.
[00:16:27] It's just it was a good is a perfect mix of stuff.
[00:16:29] I think my only slight misgiving but as we said many times on the podcast I understand maybe making us a business.
[00:16:36] I was really you know along with the ride for 100% for the film.
[00:16:42] And then there's a little bit of a credit tease.
[00:16:45] And I saw that and I was like, oh because I thought it was kind of a goofy part of the original series.
[00:16:50] And they kind of hinted at that.
[00:16:52] And I did see a letter box that supposedly there is are they have a teaser poster for the second film already.
[00:16:59] So they will be making a sequel.
[00:17:01] Yeah.
[00:17:02] I'm okay with the fact that they're making a sequel because I did enjoy this enough.
[00:17:06] I think there's I think there's a lot of room you can play with on this for another sequel.
[00:17:10] You talked about the with the branding of the name we were talking off offline about the fact that they didn't just call this teenage mutant into turtles even though it is an adventure dealing with these whole mutants that are being made this army of mutants under the leadership of Superfly.
[00:17:27] So I get it that is kind of the subtitle of the film but it does spend like the first half or third of the movie kind of retailing origin story and kind of you get acclimated to the character so this could have been a just teenage mutant into turtles.
[00:17:40] I think problem is they've already had three or four of movies like almost with that exact same title so we got to set the support.
[00:17:49] I do wonder if like the tagline mutant may have at the end of the movie there might be a little bit of a might push some people away that are like not fans of the franchise already and they're just like oh well this is just some other new adventure movie and sure it does you have to already know the characters to kind of enjoy it.
[00:18:08] The message is no you don't I mean it it doesn't really good job of setting everything up for you from from minute one so you don't have to go into this with any pre pre any awareness of the mutant in Ninja Turtles in their history beforehand so I think that worked okay.
[00:18:24] An aspect of the film that I heard an interview a little bit of an interview with Seth Rugg and apparently he was a huge fan this kind of you said that this didn't really hit in your wheelhouse because you're a little bit too old.
[00:18:36] He's a little younger so yeah.
[00:18:37] And this hit like him square he's been a huge fan forever and something he wanted to kind of approach with the film which for me I thought he kind of succeeded was focusing on the turtles teenage aspect like how they are kind of dorky teens and notice but you know they become heroes but still they're not going to be a huge fan forever.
[00:18:53] But still they're kind of the teenageness and that's something that I do feel he did achieve and that it made it kind of unique on its own because yeah there you know they want to be popular they want to go to high school they want to talk to girls I want to do all that you know all that kind of stuff they want to sneak out late and go do fun stuff without their dad knowing I mean it's you know very a teenage type so that made it that made it enjoy.
[00:19:16] I think it all worked really well I'm shocked and surprised how much I enjoyed the movie cool to the fact that I got to the end of the movie and you know we're watching this on digital on demand you know because it's available on demand as a right now.
[00:19:32] And so I was able to go back and rewind a couple scenes I thought were fine just it worked it was very very fun and again I think the humor is top notch I think it honestly I cracked up laughing many many times throughout this film.
[00:19:45] So color me surprised color me impressed good job on teenage and Indian turtles colon mutant may him plus it hits the Chris fry test of hour 39 minutes yes kept it pretty pretty fairly succinct then feel the need to go into the two and half hour blockbuster level.
[00:20:05] I think the spider verse movie was like over two hours right was two and a half hours second yeah the most recent one yeah feel like you're right yeah so then they get this one lean which was nice.
[00:20:15] So that is as I just mentioned it's still playing in movie theaters as of right now some theaters and it's available now for purchase soon to be rental or maybe rental as well but high price rental it'll be available for a little bit more affordable rental probably in the next few weeks but yeah we're saying hey
[00:20:34] and hey for the shot it was actually a lot of fun and good well made movie so there you go.
[00:20:42] Awesome most surprising review of the year here on foot candle films that's great all right Chris let's take a quick little break we come back we've got some news and recommendations to share with everybody so stay tuned you're listening to foot candle films here on the mesh dot TV and we will be right back.

So a film Jeff Nichols director you know yeah you know the director Jeff Nichols take shelter was one of the first big movies that he did that was really good he's done several other since then I think he did was a midnight express was a film what was the most recent Jeff Nichols film.
[00:22:41] Oh my goodness he did mud but that was my shoulder yeah take shelter midnight express I'm gonna get you on this. I don't know he did loving loving okay yeah but as far as like the most recent one I mean he's boy I mean I thought maybe loving was his last but maybe
[00:23:06] that was 2016 so it's been a little bit so well midnight special also was 2016 okay so yeah he has I don't I guess he hasn't done a movie since since loving which is really surprising his debut with short shotgun stories back in 2007. So shotgun stories take shelter midnight special loving I feel like we're missing something anyway we'll come back to that later regardless he does have a movie out now coming out that's
[00:23:36] called the bike riders the bike riders is starring Austin Butler you may know as Elvis Austin butlers in this Jody Comer who killing Eve can TV show she was a kind of got famous on she's been several other movie since then I think she was in the Ryan Ryan Reynolds comedy the what was that the guy the video game he's
[00:24:04] free guy that's it she was in free guys well Tom Hardy is in the smoothie Michael Shannon obviously seems to be his kind of as go to guy sure and even Norman Reedus from the talking dead or walking dead not talking
[00:24:17] the walking dead the zombies don't talk it's walking dead so this movie is yeah it's actually does say right here I should have read this rest
[00:24:26] this article first film since 2016 midnight special so they say midnight special came out after loving catch here's the synopsis of the film it's
[00:24:35] inspired by Danny lions iconic book of photography called the bike riders immerses you in the look feeling sounds of bare
[00:24:43] knuckled grease covered subculture of the 1960s motorcycle riders Kathy played by Jody Comer a strong
[00:24:52] wild member of the vandals who's married to a wild reckless bike rider named Benny played by Austin Butler recounts the
[00:24:58] vandals evolution over the course of a decade beginning as a local club of outsiders united by good times rumbling bikes
[00:25:05] in respect for their strong steady leader Johnny played by Tom Hardy so it's based on a book of photography and I actually
[00:25:13] looked up to see some of the photography and it's great great images but it's been now developed into a film so I am you know it's
[00:25:23] it's the 1960s period piece sounds like kind of a take on easy rider but maybe more visual visual easy rider type
[00:25:33] film it's possibly there is a trailer out I haven't watched it yet I thought maybe we can do that here on the show and
[00:25:39] it's going to get a sense what this movie is looking like it is coming out in theaters December 1st okay so I wanted to bring it up
[00:25:47] because I mean we like we like Jeff Nichols I mean like all of his films and I come surprise he hasn't done anything in
[00:25:55] like seven years now so nice to see another film coming out I like awesome Butler I think he was really great
[00:26:01] and Elvis I Jody Comer like Tom Hardy I like this but Cass in general so in it being based on that initial photography book
[00:26:11] yes I'm very very I mean I can see how if you're basing a movie on a photography book I could see how it could take you
[00:26:19] eight years to come up with a script or because I think like yeah we know what it's going to look like but
[00:26:25] what are we going to have them say yeah I could see that so we'll see well let's let's take a look at the trailer for
[00:26:33] the bike riders and see see what we think about this film here so here we go here's the trailer
[00:26:40] I'm in thinking I can't run this club forever
[00:26:48] I built this for nothing this is my family
[00:26:56] you will make it
[00:27:01] all right so that was the trailer for the bike riders and Chris any any thoughts after seeing that now
[00:27:08] any so yeah definitely still an easy rider vibe but almost a easy rider as told by Martin Scorsese
[00:27:18] making a mob movie yeah I got to think there was a show that I never saw um sons of Hanarki
[00:27:24] right was that about bicycle gangs okay so I never saw that but maybe taking some of that energy
[00:27:30] and kind of putting that here so and then Tom Hardy doing his best um Marlon Brando kind of voice
[00:27:38] which I like Tom Hardy yeah so I'm not coming just saying that we kind of gave me that vibe so
[00:27:43] and rebel without a cause little James Dean turn in there so I guess Austin Butler would kind of
[00:27:47] be giving that vibe yet interesting now what's the name of the fella who seems to be so it seems
[00:27:52] like they're doing this kind of as a flashback of somebody telling the story of this body
[00:27:57] character seems to be getting interviewed kind of as a retrospective about the story
[00:28:02] and it's a yeah okay like face yeah which I didn't realize he was in the film at all so um yeah
[00:28:09] as you said before great cast I am interested so yeah I think uh so just one little tidbit I read
[00:28:16] about with this so uh nickels uh they they screened this film but the telly ride film festival it was
[00:28:22] the opening film out out there okay and they're also screaming at the London Film Festival in October
[00:28:27] he says the cast did most of their own riding on period correct bikes so that was good okay
[00:28:32] and also saying that Tom Hardy um he says it was a quote force on screen and roll
[00:28:39] he's like Tom doesn't strike me as an actor certainly not in the traditional sense
[00:28:43] he's like a hurricane or a tornado you just sit back and watch but when you but then when you
[00:28:49] all you have but then when you have all that he vibrates okay I understand that quote sorry
[00:28:55] sorry Jeff but this is all coming from uh Indywire by the way just they did the interview
[00:29:01] and post up an article about this film so anyway um I'm very curious very excited
[00:29:07] yeah me too I'm happy to see another Jeff Nichols film so I'm saying wait think it'd be good
[00:29:13] so that is the bike riders and that is coming out December 1st in theaters only so we will look
[00:29:19] forward to seeing that and talking about that soon Chris uh you have a recommendation of a film for us
[00:29:26] is that what I understand yes um we have reviewed an animated film earlier in the show and so I'm
[00:29:32] going to recommend an animated film that came out uh it came out exclusively on Netflix
[00:29:37] it was called pneumonia and it is based on from what I understand a graphic novel um I have not
[00:29:43] red-set graphic novel but it tells the story of a knight who's framed for a crime and kind of gets
[00:29:49] outcast and then he teams up with a shape shifting teen named in pneumonia to try to prove his innocence
[00:29:57] Riz Ahmed is the voice of the knight including Grace Moretz plays uh or gives the voice to pneumonia
[00:30:04] and um it was it was good I think the animation was interesting nowhere near like turtles or you
[00:30:12] know spiders but it was you know interesting enough and it was kind of set in this weird there are
[00:30:17] knights but it's also kind of like a futuristic time since this weird blending to try to present
[00:30:22] like a reality or a world that you're thrown into but I enjoyed it um I will say what also struck
[00:30:29] me was um I think you I don't know if we ever discussed it on the show um per se but strange world
[00:30:36] by Disney received a lot of hubbub and adverse reactions because of depictions of LGBTQ
[00:30:43] relationship representation to me it was like if Disney said hey Disney hold my beer and then they
[00:30:48] made this movie because there's definitely you know representation is kind of a storyline or
[00:30:53] a thread in there but I enjoyed it um so it's if you have Netflix I'd recommend you check it out
[00:31:00] it is a 2023 release so it's you know it's relatively new but that's a pneumonia on Netflix
[00:31:06] on Netflix again I'm still Netflix is still very perplexing to me because they
[00:31:12] have so much content and there's just so hard to see anything that's new and interesting I just
[00:31:18] a really question how they decide to promote anything on there and let people know about it so
[00:31:23] because again I'd never heard about this then anything about this film um sounds interesting but
[00:31:28] never would have known anything about it on Netflix floating out there like that so that's
[00:31:33] about one concern with all of these films going to Netflix as premieres is that it's just it's
[00:31:39] tough to get people to be aware of it because a you know I don't know how well Netflix does their
[00:31:45] advertising outside of the actual platform and then once you get into the platform it's just
[00:31:49] really really hard to find anything so um all right well that's good pneumonia yeah and I think
[00:31:54] you know I saw this film you know month two months ago maybe and I think you're right I think
[00:31:59] the reason I happened to know it was there was it happened to be a new release maybe that week
[00:32:04] and so it was kind of like on the banner so I was like oh what's that and I saw like Riz on
[00:32:08] meds name was like okay so I watched it and I liked it but then yeah I've been on Netflix several
[00:32:13] times since then and it is poof yeah it hasn't disappeared it's still on there somewhere you're not
[00:32:18] there the the couple of days it premieres you're not going to be able to find it very easily so it's
[00:32:23] a shame it is a shame all right well that is Chris's recommendation of the film pneumonia on Netflix
[00:32:29] animated film he is recommending you check out and of course I mentioned the the bike riders coming
[00:32:34] December 1st we're going to be eagerly looking forward to that and I'm sure reviewing it when it
[00:32:40] comes out in December as well so I think that's all we've got for today Chris we did our review of
[00:32:46] teenage mutant interturtles mutant mayhem which we both really enjoyed and had a good time with
[00:32:52] and then we did our news and recommendations so given all of that Chris how can people get a hold
[00:32:58] of us if they have any comments questions feedback or their own input were they a fan of the mutant
[00:33:04] ninja turtles movie what they surprised as much as I was they thought vanilla I should have been
[00:33:08] giving a supporting actor for his role and secretive is that does bring up something so and that would
[00:33:14] be kind of grown worthy if they did something with the sequel to this movie and they put and they do
[00:33:19] either some little cameo or someone call back I mean I guess it could be funny if you don't ride but
[00:33:24] you know we'll see sure so if you have ideas for teenage mutant interturtle sequel that don't
[00:33:29] include vanilla ice send us email to info at footcandle.org you can also follow us on the website
