He discusses his New Jersey roots, his first job in the Home Furnishing Department of NYC’s famed Bloomingdale’s, his coming out during a pivotal time in LGBT history, and his subsequent move to North Carolina where he co-created MG+BW with partner, Bob Williams.

Mitchell’s success lies in his trailblazing approach to treating employees with respect, rejecting the prevalent “plantation” mentality. He discusses his belief that profitability and treating employees with dignity can go hand-in-hand, and how this philosophy has made MG+BW the success it has become.
