[00:00:00] What you want, when you want it, where you want it. This is The MESH.

[00:00:20] Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to episode 99, volume 5 of a delightful spring edition of

[00:00:27] Big Fan. As the three millionth's 480,719th pollen sprig fell upon my brow this morning,

[00:00:36] I'm reminded with every sneeze and itchy eye why spring is my least favorite month.

[00:00:41] However, Hank, because I'm a glass half full kind of guy, I will look at the finer things

[00:00:47] in spring. Are you ready? Can I reference that spring is not a month? You said spring

[00:00:53] is my least favorite month? Unbelieveable. It's the sinuses. They're causing me just to act

[00:00:59] very strange. It could be a sinus, but we'll go with sinuses. Okay. Things I like about

[00:01:06] spring. Flip flops. The masters. Suns staying out till 8pm. Sun dresses. Not that I'm

[00:01:18] a fan of spring. Outdoor concerts. The smell of a fresh cut lawn. Grilling out with friends.

[00:01:28] Planning for summer vacations. And last but not least, the spring edition of the

[00:01:33] fastest growing podcast, this side of Lake Hickory, Big Fan. Hey, let me tell

[00:01:39] you something. I'm Hank Hymer and I'm not a big fan of losing an entire weekend

[00:01:45] to the effects of pollen after you figure out that you have grown into your allergies.

[00:01:51] Wow. Right? I didn't know I'm gonna had allergies. Sitting at a sporting event, sweating profusely

[00:01:59] and realizing it's only 84 degrees. It's going to get worse. You should have seen

[00:02:03] me yesterday at my son's game. I was a mess. And then walking out to the mailbox

[00:02:08] with bare feet and realizing that you've lost your tough feet that you had as a

[00:02:13] kid and could fall to the ground if you stepped on an unnoticed acorn. Do you know this feeling?

[00:02:18] Oh, I know this feeling very well. Ouch. Yes. With old age, the feet become sensitive.

[00:02:26] Sensitive. I used to get it like I remember when I'd be like walking across the house

[00:02:31] at night and you'd catch an errant Lego. Oh, it'd be nestled in the rug somewhere.

[00:02:40] Next thing you know, you got it. Oh my take you to your knees.

[00:02:43] It was the worst one I had and this is not really related but kind of related. So remember

[00:02:48] when you first have kids and you're like a zombie, you know what I'm saying? It'd be

[00:02:53] three o'clock in the morning. You just, you're just trying to get through.

[00:02:56] And just think you're going to bed at that time now.

[00:02:58] Not true. I'm maturing, Hank. Anyway, so we had at this time,

[00:03:05] I think it was Lucy Rose. She was the baby. Olivia was like four years old. And so Lucy

[00:03:10] Rose is crying and I remember like walking, you know, you walk with your eyes closed

[00:03:14] and we used to have this hornet problem in the spring when it would get warm. These

[00:03:18] hornets would come into our house. Well, as I'm walking, I step on two hornets. They are on

[00:03:23] the floor and sting the bottom of my foot. Worse than a Lego. Much worse than a Lego.

[00:03:29] Did you go down like a block of sack potatoes?

[00:03:31] I woke up immediately like, what? And I did fall down and it's pitch dark. I don't know

[00:03:36] what's happening. I wish you would have laid on more hornets. They start stinging my ears.

[00:03:41] I wish you would have laid down on a city of hornets.

[00:03:44] I didn't know if it was like a snake bite. I didn't know what was going on. I just knew

[00:03:47] it was some intense pain but you got to tough it out. You got to get to the crying

[00:03:51] baby. So I hobble in there. Did you crawl? Yes, basically. And I got into the crib and

[00:03:57] tried to comfort while my foot is throbbing with hornet stings. Hornet stings. Awful.

[00:04:04] But anyways, I'm surprised you didn't have enough weight to crush them.

[00:04:06] They probably lifted you off of them. I just started flying like I had those Achilles

[00:04:11] wing shoes. I was flying all around the room. Oh, so good. So good. Okay. Hey, so glad

[00:04:18] to be back. It's been four week hiatus. Yes. So a lot of stuff has happened. We're

[00:04:22] going to get to that first. But first, let's do talk about one of your topics here.

[00:04:26] Growing into allergies. Yes. Growing. Everyone thought that was impossible, right? I have done

[00:04:31] it. So I'll start and then you finish. I used to have allergies so bad. I'd have to get

[00:04:37] shots. Like growing up, I was just, yes, I was a feeble little child, you know, allergy

[00:04:43] shots. Really grew into that. Yes. And so until I went to college, I take a shot every

[00:04:48] week, get to college, allergies gone. Except for this spring season. Now they're back.

[00:04:56] They disappeared and now they're back. So tell me about you. No allergies ever.

[00:05:00] I grew up no allergies. I could walk through a pollen storm and I'd feel great coming out

[00:05:06] of it. So the other day when the, you know, I felt like the effects of pollen last year

[00:05:12] and I was like, Oh man, Thursday, Friday, it didn't feel a hundred percent. Well,

[00:05:16] I decided to cut my grass and I have a new mower, riding mower and it big man in the

[00:05:21] neighborhood. Big man. You want to know it's no tractor, but you know, it'll do the job.

[00:05:28] But when you're riding on it, it like kicks stuff all on you. Right? And you've

[00:05:32] got to know like where the wind is. I don't know that. So it's just hammering me.

[00:05:36] Right? So I get off of it. It's I've got junk all on me. I go to blow off my driveway.

[00:05:40] Right. It's a cloud of, you know, debris everywhere. So later on that evening,

[00:05:46] my family comes over. My sister came to visit this, uh, this past weekend. Uh, she's, uh,

[00:05:52] uh, in Boston and she was coming down to see her new, see us and see her daughter.

[00:05:56] So it was good to have her, um, which we're expecting a lot of subscribers out of her.

[00:06:01] We are a lot of, we are a lot of subscribers out of that share, share the

[00:06:06] Boston area. That's our new focus. Yeah, we really committed to the West coast. Now we need

[00:06:12] Boston and Sarah hierarchy. Uh, so, um, I'm cooking them dinner and I feel a little bit

[00:06:19] like a twinge of like a scratch in my throat and headache that evening.

[00:06:24] I had a pounding headache from midnight till well into the next day. I felt awful.

[00:06:33] I think we're going to start getting you on some shots, Hank, some allergy shots once a week.

[00:06:39] Be good as new. You think I think that's what you know. I think I think I just need to

[00:06:44] avoid pollen for a couple of weeks or you can pop a couple of these little Zyrtec. That's

[00:06:49] what I'm doing. And that seems to help still. It just doesn't make you,

[00:06:53] you don't feel like yourself with these allergies, right? It's just a terrible feeling,

[00:06:56] very tired, a very tired feelings, sleepy and very sleepy. But anyway, screw the pollen.

[00:07:01] That's why spring is my worst season. Are you going to rank the seasons real quick?

[00:07:06] Month? Not much seasons. I was correct this time. Let's rank. Let's start with your worst.

[00:07:11] My worst is spring and not really allergy related because I do kind of like spring,

[00:07:16] but it's just not, it's my least favorite. So go ahead. You're fourth.

[00:07:20] My least, uh, I have to go winter winter winter just for the simple. It's dark longer.

[00:07:28] Yes. Cold. I don't mind the cold, but yeah, actually I do. I don't love the cold.

[00:07:32] But, um, it's just dark dreary. That's why it's my third. But the reason I put it in

[00:07:38] front of spring is because I have like really great coats and so in the winter time,

[00:07:42] you only wear one. No, not which one, which one? The fur line one that you think you look like

[00:07:47] Bruno Mars in. No, I have another one. That's kind of like a, a pea coat, but it,

[00:07:53] it's like really European looking. And so, uh, I guess, yeah, winter is my favorite season,

[00:07:59] third favorite season because of coats, because it coats. You know, I have a very good coat

[00:08:03] collection. I don't know if you know that. Yours are more like hoodies, technical,

[00:08:08] like more hoodies, not coats. Right? I don't really have costume coats like you do.

[00:08:13] They just slide on yours. Just slide on and they normally have a mascot on them. Right?

[00:08:19] No, no, no, no, that's, that's, that's far patched. Uh, so my number three,

[00:08:26] and this is going to be controversial, but it's probably summer. Okay. Very controversial. So

[00:08:31] summer hot weather. I don't really mind the hot weather. Uh, but I feel like the other two

[00:08:38] seasons outside of some things, whether is just amazing. So I'll pick some more of a weather

[00:08:46] climate, a climate guy segment. I am okay in this segment. I am fair enough. Number two,

[00:08:53] I'm going for fall. And the reason I like fall, I mean, it's a very close to number one, but

[00:08:58] you know, the weather is starting to cool off a little bit and the football kind of kicks into

[00:09:05] gear. It just seems like there's, it starts to be activity driven, uh, with our kids sports

[00:09:11] and a lot of stuff, you know? So that's why my number two will be fall as well. Okay.

[00:09:15] Okay. The reason for that is very similar to what you say. It's perfect weather, perfect

[00:09:19] weather. It's perfect weather. And, uh, you know, I know you're kind of a, uh, latte guy.

[00:09:25] I don't look forward to that, but you know, you like the pumpkin spice, but it,

[00:09:29] it feels like you're getting into holiday season. So I like that. Well done, sir. Well

[00:09:34] done. The other thing I feel in the fall, I like a fire, an outdoor fire specifically.

[00:09:40] I feel like in the fall it's fire time, fire time, crackle, crackle. You understand

[00:09:46] what I'm saying? Yeah. Okay. Let's leave falling, falling fires. That's like igniting forest.

[00:09:54] Oh, yes. It leaves falling and into fire, spreading through neighborhoods, burning homes.

[00:10:00] All right. And so my number one is summer Hank, uh, summer vacations. I like the beach.

[00:10:05] I like being hot and sweaty. I like bathing suit time, you know, I like bikinis. Yes.

[00:10:12] So that's where we're going. It's summer, summer, summer. It's relaxing. It's a relaxing.

[00:10:17] I like spring. Okay. I can combat the pollen and everything else for nice weather.

[00:10:28] I'm not talking 100 degree weather. I'm talking 70 degree weather air condition.

[00:10:31] No. Okay. Good. Uh, 8 p.m is when the sun stops, right? Baseball starts. There you go.

[00:10:41] It's looking into summer. You're getting excited about preparing. You only got a couple

[00:10:47] weeks of school, you know, you still gotta work, but we're looking towards summer.

[00:10:52] That's what I'm going. That's great answer. Great answer. And if pollen wasn't in the spring,

[00:10:57] pollen, I mean, pollen would be my number one season. Spring would leapfrog them all and be

[00:11:02] number one, but that's how much I hate pollen. You're pollinated. It drops them right down

[00:11:06] to number four. Holy cow, Hank. What a great segment that was. Thank you everyone. We're done.

[00:11:15] So we just talked about, we haven't been back with our audience in four weeks. The last time

[00:11:19] we left our audience, like we were getting ready to go on our March madness adventure.

[00:11:24] What a time. I mean, what a time you and I have talked about exactly how it was with

[00:11:27] your group, my group. It was fabulous. Um, I'm not going to spend too much time on it, but

[00:11:33] NC State made that run. I mean, which you can only imagine really helped, uh,

[00:11:38] intensify the excitement for the last three weeks, three weeks of March madness. Yeah.

[00:11:43] Do you recall me picking in my bracket NC State to go to the final four?

[00:11:49] I do. Yeah, I do. I was trying to recall every other year that you would have done

[00:11:55] that. It is probably every year. And so congratulations to you for getting it right one time out of

[00:12:04] 43 years, 30 years. So we did have a couple of comments that came into, uh,

[00:12:09] via fax and one of them was because I picked Oakland over Kentucky. I picked a bunch of these

[00:12:15] upsets and every pick that you made lost. They were like, if Hank bets on these things,

[00:12:22] he is probably going to have to take out a second mortgage. And I was like,

[00:12:26] yeah, you're probably right. He lost everything. Do you recall? Do you recall your picks?

[00:12:33] That was my plan. Oh, you're trying to reverse. I don't, I'm trying to keep people from

[00:12:38] betting. So if they took that loss, maybe they'll think, think differently.

[00:12:42] That is not for me. That's the way I look at it. You know, it's so funny is when I went

[00:12:49] to put a shilling on a game, simple shilling, I completely forgot who I,

[00:12:57] who I liked and I think I won big like all weekend. So that does make sense.

[00:13:02] That goes to show you what kind of table terrible either podcaster I am or what kind

[00:13:07] of gambler you are. Yes. It was exciting that in North Carolina made gambling legal

[00:13:14] just prior to that March Madness. And they gave so many of these wonderful bonuses away that

[00:13:20] even if you're really not a gambling man, I mean, but you're a sports fan, you throw in

[00:13:26] five bucks and they give you $200 and multiple outlets did that fan dual DraftKings. So

[00:13:33] you never had more fans, no more friends than you did after you signed up. You're like,

[00:13:37] Oh, I could send this to him and then him and then him $50 here, $50 referral fee here.

[00:13:41] Yes. And so it was just great, great timing. And the great thing is a lot of my buddies who

[00:13:46] did the same thing that I did put five bucks and get 200, they would take the whole 200 bonus

[00:13:51] and just put it on NC State. And so a couple of them cashed out thousands of dollars on a

[00:13:55] $5 investment. So anyway, what a run, what a run. So that's going to lead to them saving

[00:14:01] that money, maybe putting it towards a college fund for their kids. Because you know,

[00:14:06] because that's how dreading works. Oh, exactly. And I'm no professional gambler,

[00:14:10] but I did warn them Hank said, cash that money out and close your account immediately.

[00:14:15] Immediately. They're like, I got this man. So what they did is took some out, but left it.

[00:14:21] And guess what? There is nothing left in the account. You know, that's how they get you.

[00:14:25] Now you're going to, they want you to reload and reload and reload. But a smart man like

[00:14:30] us, Hank, we just close out the push away from the table. That's what you do. That's exactly

[00:14:34] what I can tell you right now. I've never seen you push away from the table. We're out.

[00:14:37] No more cash in and we're out. Listen, I'll tell you a sentence that I've never heard out of your

[00:14:42] mouth. Oh, it's early. We should probably shut this game down and drink waters and go home.

[00:14:49] Only two o'clock in the morning. So Hank following the March madness run, which was

[00:14:54] a three week run, which the crew I was running with, I got to spend one time,

[00:14:59] one night with you. That was the ACC tournament that rolled in the NCAA and I met new pack

[00:15:04] fans and all this stuff. Wonderful run. Well, after March madness exhausted, I'm talking about

[00:15:10] running on fumes the next week is the masters. So then we got to do it again, you know? So tell

[00:15:16] me about your master's weekend. Anything exciting happened last week and following March

[00:15:21] madness? No, really? No, I listen, I love the masters and uh, I think that the storyline

[00:15:28] could have been really good on the last day, but Scotty Schaeffler just kind of took it to

[00:15:33] him and that was the day that I felt like dump after the pollen episode. So I sat on my couch

[00:15:38] and watched last bit and at the beginning of the day, I thought this could be really cool

[00:15:42] because there could be like four or five guys in the hunt. And then he just played well enough

[00:15:47] to keep them at arm's reach. And so I really am glad that he will like, I'm glad he won.

[00:15:53] I mean, he's the best player in the world. Right? We had many conversations on that Sunday.

[00:15:58] I watched it with a couple of buddies that Tiger is like Tiger and Jack, like we were talking

[00:16:03] about the goats at all these sports, Caitlin Clark right now, you know, could she be the

[00:16:08] goat? You know, overpass Cheryl Miller one day or Cheryl swoops, you know, Tom Brady, people

[00:16:13] can see in our lifetime. We have seen the goats of sports. Well, Scotty Schaeffler,

[00:16:18] does he have the stuff to pass Tiger as the goat? He doesn't have the charisma,

[00:16:26] nor would he have people do don't want to follow him. Like people will tune into Tiger if he's

[00:16:33] eight over on the 12th hole. Scotty Schaeffler, they will not tune in. He might break some

[00:16:38] records, but he won't be, you know, all present. No Tiger, you know why Michael and

[00:16:45] you know why he doesn't care about golf really? He does, but he doesn't care about golf.

[00:16:50] He's a very, if you've seen him in any, I've watched more press conferences for his

[00:16:55] last week than I've ever seen in his life. Sure. He's a very faithful dude,

[00:16:59] like, I mean, very faithful. He believes that God has put him in this position

[00:17:04] and he leaves it all into his hands. And he says that on an interview and it's actually

[00:17:08] been detrimental kind of to him because some of like the corporate America is saying,

[00:17:12] Hey, that's not what we want to do. But I honestly feel like, and I don't feel like

[00:17:16] every goat that we've had in our past. I honestly feel like if he decided that he

[00:17:20] wanted to just be a dad and walk away from him, he'd do it. I mean, he'd do it. He made

[00:17:24] $53 million already. Do you believe what he was saying? Cause his wife was pregnant.

[00:17:29] You heard this all the time. I believe he would left. I think you're right.

[00:17:32] Absolutely. We were all sitting around. Everybody agreed Scotty is not bulls and he

[00:17:39] is for real. He would leave with a five stroke lead on 12th hole if he knew his son

[00:17:44] or his new baby was going to be born. What would you do Hank? I actually had this

[00:17:50] conversation with my wife. Okay. Okay. I said, Reagan, this gentleman is wife's pregnant.

[00:17:56] First baby, first baby getting ready to have something, you know, any day now,

[00:18:01] if she were to have it, he said he's going to leave and she was like, well,

[00:18:04] if it's his first baby, I'd expect you to leave. I'd say, well, I'm going to,

[00:18:08] I'm going to tell you something here. He's getting ready to win three and a half million

[00:18:12] dollars. If it were day one of the tournament and I was middle of the pack guy, you know

[00:18:18] I'd leave in a minute. We're on Sunday, even Saturday. I'm up two strokes on the masters.

[00:18:25] You know, my son might be called master when he gets at the end of that weekend. I don't know

[00:18:30] because I'm going to figure out if I win that three and a half million dollars.

[00:18:33] Right. You know, and the other thing, once you have a green jacket,

[00:18:37] I mean, you're in a club that is very few. There were very few members of this club

[00:18:43] that opens many other doors for you. He's got two. He has two of them. Exactly. So anyway,

[00:18:49] I'm kind of with you. I think I would tough it out. I think my wife would say,

[00:18:54] I want you to stay on that golf course. You go finish this thing off. You

[00:18:59] you're there. Finish it off. Bring it home. Now don't blow it. Don't triple bogey on 12.

[00:19:05] Right. Not trying to run this thing. Let's just handle your business. Let's get it done.

[00:19:10] I think that's the way. But $53 million, your brain may switch. I mean, he might say, you know,

[00:19:15] I could, I can do this in another tournament in a month and get to watch my son be born and

[00:19:21] not worry about it. Yeah. Which is a different, I mean, that's a mindset we can't, it's,

[00:19:25] it's not really how my brain works, but you know, some people's do. And Scottie

[00:19:29] Chevrolet seems like a genuine, really good dude. So I was root, I was root for him as

[00:19:32] well. I, you know, the sad thing is, is that people like him aren't considered sexy in sports

[00:19:39] and they're exactly who you want your kid to emulate. So true. You know, they're exactly,

[00:19:43] he's boring. He's good. Right. He's faithful. He's a husband. He makes the right decision.

[00:19:50] Dad, it's exactly who you want your kids to emulate. But yet the golf community doesn't

[00:19:54] want him to be the top dog. Right. They want Ricky Fowler, you know, or they want somebody

[00:19:58] else that's more charismatic. Yeah. Like they want a John Morant. I mean, they push him so

[00:20:06] hard and he's terrible. Yeah, he's terrible. But anyway, so I guess just, that's just how

[00:20:11] it works. That's just how it works, man. Yeah. So anyway, you know, you know, following the

[00:20:15] masters, we were talking about spring, it's, it's golf season now. All these golf tournaments

[00:20:19] are kicking into gear. There's one this weekend in Hickory that I'll be playing in.

[00:20:23] I look forward to it. Who are you playing with? John Mills. Okay. And he sent me a

[00:20:26] picture today. He has this putting practice device that I mean, he, he's working,

[00:20:33] is practicing. This dude wants to win it all. And I like that about him. Okay. He wants to

[00:20:38] bring it home. Gosh. Yeah. So anyway, it's going to be a lot of fun for you. I'm sure

[00:20:41] you will say it's going to be a lot of fun. It kicks into gear Saturday and Sunday, but I

[00:20:44] wanted to tell you, you know, we've had many a golf adventure in our life. You know,

[00:20:48] we've been on a couple of trips together, spectacular trips, you know, all across the,

[00:20:52] you know, everywhere. But I had one this weekend that really was, it was fantastic,

[00:20:58] but in its own kind of way, I was going to share it with you and the audience. Yeah. I heard,

[00:21:02] I heard just bits and pieces yesterday. So I play a little golf and typically I play

[00:21:07] on a Friday, the weekends. I don't play much because it's family time. We got soccer and

[00:21:11] dance. I don't have much time to play, but so this one group of guys have asked me to

[00:21:16] come play their golf course, which is called Cedar rock and Lenore. Right. And time and

[00:21:21] time and time they say, Chad, we play at Saturday. We're happy to tee off at nine.

[00:21:25] You'll be home at two. It's awesome. It's a great course. They're great people out here.

[00:21:29] You should come. And I say, no, can't do it. No, we can't do it. Well, this one time,

[00:21:33] cause Jennifer and Lucy Rose were in a town Olivia's at school. They asked me and he was

[00:21:38] like, dude, this is the last time I want to ask you. And I was like, well, guess what?

[00:21:41] I can go this weekend. And he said, cool. I will organize. He said, I know you kind of

[00:21:46] like to party a little bit after the thing. I'll get you a ride. You don't have all you

[00:21:51] got to do is bring your golf clubs. I'll get you right. They'll pick you up at your house,

[00:21:55] bring you to the golf course and we'll get you back home. And I was like, this sounds

[00:21:58] fantastic. Like you're a celebrity. It really did. It made me feel really good. So we get

[00:22:02] to the golf course. It's about, I think we're eight 45, eight 30. We're teeing off at nine.

[00:22:07] We go in there and you know, the crowd is there. I've never, I only met two of these

[00:22:11] dudes. The rest of the crowd of 12, I think it was good old boys, you know, knocking down

[00:22:19] a burn real quick. Eight 50 smoking that Sigi already got a beer in hand, you know,

[00:22:24] moonshine sitting on the golf cart. You know what I'm talking about? I know this dude,

[00:22:28] you know, this kind of crowd. And so I was like, this is going to be,

[00:22:31] this is going to be a lot of fun. So we get into the golf course, not only golf

[00:22:34] course is beautiful. It's very scenic, but uh, you know, the music's playing. It's just

[00:22:38] one of those very relaxed days. Saturday, the weather was perfect. You know, I want to

[00:22:43] say it was like 74 degrees. Perfect. So we get through the round, meet all the guys.

[00:22:50] Everything is fantastic. And, and the one fellow I was with, he was like, hey, you

[00:22:54] want to have a cocktail after the round? I said, sure. We didn't play very good. So

[00:22:59] let's go in here and have a drink. Well, this bar is magnificent Hank. So it's a

[00:23:02] beautiful bar inside. Then they have this patio that looks over the golf course,

[00:23:07] which is so gorgeous. And so we sit down there and planned us to have one. Well,

[00:23:10] before you know it, we're two and a half hours into it. And I'm like, holy cow,

[00:23:14] I think it's probably time for me to get going. Well, my ride, my original ride,

[00:23:19] who was a young man, 26 years old, who was the son of one of the people that

[00:23:23] invited me has had a little bit too many. So he said, Chad, I can't drive

[00:23:28] you home. And I was like, I understand. I'm like getting in the car with you

[00:23:30] anyway. One other fellow decides to step up. He's only had one beard. He said,

[00:23:35] I'll get you home, Chad, but I need to cut, make a couple stops. And I said,

[00:23:39] hey, buddy, you get me home. I'll go anywhere you want to go. His 103 year old

[00:23:44] grandmother lives right down the street from the golf course. And he said, I

[00:23:48] need to stop in and meet her and make sure she's doing okay. Do you mind,

[00:23:51] Chad? I said, oh, let's go. So we go see grandma. I'm having just the

[00:23:57] best day. I give her a hug. She's a big Wolf Pack fan. We sit there and

[00:24:00] shoot the bull a little bit. How old is this woman? She's 103 years old.

[00:24:04] 103. She's 103 years old and a wonderful lady. So we spend a little

[00:24:09] time and make sure she's comfortable and situated. And then my buddy says,

[00:24:14] hey man, I got some land up here. Do you want to kind of check it out? Do

[00:24:17] you have anywhere to go? And I was like, no, I'd love to see your land.

[00:24:20] Let's go. So next thing I know we're cruising down the road and he puts

[00:24:24] his Tahoe or Yukon or whatever into four wheel low. And we start going up

[00:24:29] this mountain, Hank, I'm not lying to you. I felt like we were in the

[00:24:33] middle of, give me somewhere that's very desolate, very remote.

[00:24:40] What does it say? The mountains of North Carolina. Okay. Sahara desert.

[00:24:45] But very mountainy and very tree and all this stuff. And so we're going

[00:24:49] straight up this mountain. He said, I want to show you my land. I thought

[00:24:52] that we just pull off on the side of the road and there's like a little

[00:24:55] plot of land where he might want to build a house. No, this is on the

[00:24:57] top of a mountain. So after 20 some minutes hitting potholes and big

[00:25:02] ridges and all this stuff and on this narrow road where you can look over

[00:25:06] and like, it looks like you could fall over the mountain. We finally get

[00:25:09] to the top and I'm 20 minutes up to the top of this mountain. And so he

[00:25:15] pulls the truck over and he was like, go ahead, take a look. So I

[00:25:17] walk out of the car, look over the little, the area into this valley.

[00:25:22] It is absolutely beautiful. We were in the middle of nowhere. If you

[00:25:26] had to go off the grid, let's say the Russians or whomever.

[00:25:30] Red dawn, red dawn. That's where you'd want to be. That's where you

[00:25:34] have to go. There's no way they could find you. No way perched up

[00:25:37] there. Yes. And so we're out overlooking the valley and everything

[00:25:40] is great. And how we all took me. I took a deep breath like,

[00:25:45] this is really nice thinking, you know, I've seen it. I was

[00:25:49] time to go back down and I hear

[00:25:54] my man had a cooler about 1618 deep and a whole other thing of

[00:25:59] moonshine. He said, go on and sit down. We go and take this all

[00:26:03] in, go ahead and sit down. And so he had two fire pits built up

[00:26:07] there. Just beautiful. I can't describe to you how gorgeous it

[00:26:10] was. Was it windy up there? It was kind of windy. Yeah, it

[00:26:13] was kind of windy. Actually, it was very windy to be quite

[00:26:15] honest. This was Saturday. Don't start fires up there.

[00:26:18] When we did, we didn't make a fire. They were just fire

[00:26:20] pits up there because that's what they do. They go up there

[00:26:24] and they'll shoot guns and just hang out and talk. And

[00:26:28] it's my kind of place. It was wonderful. And so after an hour

[00:26:31] goes by and then another hour goes by, so I've been two hours

[00:26:34] up there. I've been gone since eight o'clock in the morning.

[00:26:37] I would have been after the first hour. I would have been

[00:26:40] real concerned that I'm getting kidnapped. I cannot lie to

[00:26:43] you. The thought did cross my mind. Like we are out. No

[00:26:47] one knows we're up here. What if you're sitting there

[00:26:50] and all of a sudden two guys come out of the thing.

[00:26:52] They're like, Hey, Jim, is this the boy you were talking

[00:26:55] about? Hey, Chad. Oh, I can't lie to you. It crossed my mind.

[00:27:02] Because some of the on our way up a couple some of the

[00:27:05] sheds and people, I don't know if they I don't know what

[00:27:08] was would go, but they look pretty rough, right? Yeah.

[00:27:14] You saw eyes and like this shed like moving. Right.

[00:27:17] Right. And so after a couple hours, we shot the bull.

[00:27:20] Just enjoy the scenery. So great. Now it's time to get

[00:27:22] down. So we finally get down. I don't know how he got us back

[00:27:26] down that mountain. I mean, because it was like this. So

[00:27:29] anyway, we get there. I get home and there are all these

[00:27:32] other masters party. I was supposed to attend that day

[00:27:34] and they all started at two or three get home at eight

[00:27:37] thirty. I've been gone for 12 hours. So I decide just to

[00:27:42] let's just kick it. So I stayed at the house made a

[00:27:45] scallop or two, put the replay of the masters on and

[00:27:48] then watch the entire masters by myself by yourself.

[00:27:51] Yes. So Koa Koa and I, yes. And so it was a heck of a golf

[00:27:55] adventure. You know, it's it's one of those that you're not

[00:27:58] planning for and it just kind of happens. Yeah. So

[00:28:01] organic. He organically met a lot of great people and saw

[00:28:05] some fantastic views and drank a lot of moonshine. Oh

[00:28:08] yeah. Solid Saturday. I know that man. Yeah. That man

[00:28:10] will put you on some moonshine. He's wonderful. So

[00:28:13] that's kind of how my thing's been going on. Hank,

[00:28:14] anything else been going on in your life? How about some

[00:28:16] baseball for your son? Yeah. All that good stuff. Grandview

[00:28:19] baseball's out there fighting. They're fighting a good fight,

[00:28:22] but they're running into trouble. So they they are an

[00:28:26] inexperienced team, but that's all right. All these

[00:28:29] boys are trying hard and that's like the most

[00:28:30] important part, but it's been good outside from that.

[00:28:34] You know, it's funny because eighth grade is a time

[00:28:39] where you gotta kind of let like let go like it's even

[00:28:45] earlier than that. It was like, hey, you got

[00:28:47] certain responsibilities and I'm gonna like get to this

[00:28:52] point here, but you know, like today for instance,

[00:28:56] know a young man that had a presentation to do today.

[00:28:59] Right? Yes. Got asked to do a presentation in front of

[00:29:02] it's kind of like a shark tank. It was in front of

[00:29:03] people to do a shark tank. Sure. Fun. Get I'm having

[00:29:07] an appointment at 8 AM this morning and I get a

[00:29:09] text and it says, oh, I was supposed to dress in

[00:29:11] all black. Oh, okay. Well, I can't help you on that.

[00:29:17] Do you remember those lessons? Like you'd show up at

[00:29:19] school and you needed to do something and you hadn't

[00:29:21] done it. Sounds like a nightmare. A reoccurring

[00:29:24] nightmare. Right. Reoccurring nightmare. Right. And so

[00:29:26] it's like, you know, it's like those ones like

[00:29:28] you I used to always have the one in college

[00:29:30] where you you'd show up and you realize that

[00:29:34] the class has been going on for three months and

[00:29:36] you haven't been there and next week's the exam.

[00:29:39] And you're like, so, you know, to me, it gets

[00:29:42] to a point where you're like, you know, when,

[00:29:45] when does it sink in? And I thought to myself, I

[00:29:47] have some buddies that it's never sunk in. They

[00:29:50] would have not gone wearing black to that one.

[00:29:53] And so, you know, it's for me, I think it's

[00:29:56] funny to watch these kids kind of like grow

[00:30:00] and learn and try to figure this stuff out

[00:30:02] and realize that one day you're not going to

[00:30:05] have somebody around the corner that's able to

[00:30:07] help you. You're going to have to make these

[00:30:08] decisions really quick. So may I ask did this

[00:30:11] young man, did he freak out or did he was, did

[00:30:14] he handle it cool? And what was the solution?

[00:30:17] Oh, he ended up handled it cool. And somebody

[00:30:20] was able to get him proper clothing before

[00:30:23] it happened. But I think the biggest thing

[00:30:26] was is in the middle, it wasn't even freak

[00:30:29] out or anything, but at the beginning of the

[00:30:31] freak out or the issue, it was, you know,

[00:30:35] this is no issue of mine. And this is no,

[00:30:38] you know, I mean, at some point I, you

[00:30:40] know, I'm going to try to help, but I don't

[00:30:42] know if, if this is on you, young man.

[00:30:45] I don't know if the solution is going to

[00:30:47] help. Yeah. So I just find it's funny to

[00:30:51] watch kids grow and go from situation to

[00:30:53] situation. And in my office, I see, you

[00:30:55] know, four year old kids running down the

[00:30:57] hall. I see teenagers, I see college

[00:30:59] students and just watching them grow. And

[00:31:00] kind of it's just been because you were

[00:31:02] talking about like Olivia's coming back.

[00:31:04] Yeah. Right. I mean, she's coming back in

[00:31:05] the next few weeks. She's going to be

[00:31:06] working here and then she's got to go back

[00:31:07] because she's got something in August,

[00:31:09] got to move in August 1st. That's right.

[00:31:11] We were talking about that yesterday,

[00:31:12] how fast life is moving. Yeah. I mean,

[00:31:14] her first year is over at two weeks.

[00:31:17] Dumb. And then we were just talking

[00:31:19] about it, just starting. Yeah.

[00:31:21] It's bizarre. I mean, you know, I mean,

[00:31:23] just think about it. I mean, she's

[00:31:24] going to be, I mean, she's going to

[00:31:26] be out of school before we know it.

[00:31:27] Before you know it, she will be in the

[00:31:30] working, the real world working force.

[00:31:33] Yeah. The workforce. Push something

[00:31:35] towards that social security so we can

[00:31:37] retire it one day. Yes. Amazing. But

[00:31:40] anyway, yes, life is short. Hank,

[00:31:44] we'll breeze through this because you

[00:31:47] just life goes on. I've got to pick

[00:31:49] up somebody at four soccer practice.

[00:31:50] You got to get to your thing and

[00:31:52] baseball. So bingo, we got some stuff

[00:31:54] to do, but the Olympics start in,

[00:31:56] I think less than three months, right?

[00:31:58] Yes. Moose, if you don't mind, put up

[00:32:00] the new dream team Olympic basketball

[00:32:03] on the screen here. And I want to go

[00:32:06] through it with Hank and then we'll

[00:32:08] compare it to the dream team of 92,

[00:32:10] just real quick. And let's see which

[00:32:12] team you would prefer. Are you a big

[00:32:14] Olympics fan first? First of your

[00:32:16] summer or winter? I like summer

[00:32:19] better. Me too. I love track and

[00:32:20] field. They put it at the end, right?

[00:32:22] And so you got to be like, go

[00:32:23] through all the weird crap before

[00:32:25] you get there and then you get to

[00:32:26] the end. But I do like, I do. I

[00:32:29] don't think anything beats, I mean,

[00:32:30] summer Olympics to me it, because

[00:32:32] you're patriotic as heck. I mean,

[00:32:34] I look forward to coming home from

[00:32:36] work and getting down. Let's watch

[00:32:37] some Olympics tonight, you know, with

[00:32:39] the family. That's a really good

[00:32:40] feeling from swimming to diving,

[00:32:42] gymnastics, this all the sports, the

[00:32:44] track and field, you name it. I want

[00:32:45] to be a part of it. But anyway, so

[00:32:46] here's the team that they've

[00:32:48] announced for the summer Olympics

[00:32:50] 2024. Of course, LeBron, tell me

[00:32:53] who you would take off and if you

[00:32:54] would add anybody. Of course, LeBron.

[00:32:56] We've got Steph, Kevin Durant, Joe

[00:32:58] Embiid, Anthony Davis, Devin Booker,

[00:33:02] Anthony Edwards, Jason Tatum, Bam,

[00:33:06] Adebayo, Tyrese Halliburton, who is

[00:33:08] newish and Drew Holliday. They just

[00:33:10] picked up Kwai Leonard yesterday too.

[00:33:12] So that is the team. It's pretty

[00:33:14] solid.

[00:33:14] Ah, Kwai.

[00:33:16] Yes, pretty solid team right? There's

[00:33:18] some all-star talent right there.

[00:33:21] So the starting five is probably

[00:33:22] LeBron, Steph, Durant, Embiid

[00:33:26] and maybe Tatum with Anthony Davis

[00:33:28] coming off to, well, Joe Embiid,

[00:33:30] he's kind of hurt so we'll see. But

[00:33:32] anyway, solid team. They should

[00:33:34] breeze through the Olympics with

[00:33:36] gold. Now let's go take me,

[00:33:39] Moose if you will, to the dream team

[00:33:41] of 1992.

[00:33:43] First dream team. The real dream

[00:33:46] team. I can tell you right now

[00:33:47] that lineup which you just showed me,

[00:33:49] I don't think there's anybody else in

[00:33:50] the league that I necessarily

[00:33:51] would want. I mean, you know, you

[00:33:54] could if, you know, I mean

[00:33:55] if his, if probation officer would

[00:33:58] allow him to do it,

[00:33:59] would be Ja Moran or something, you know, I

[00:34:01] mean like somebody like that. Yeah. But

[00:34:03] there's a dude named Jalen Brunson

[00:34:04] who's playing for New York Knicks. He's

[00:34:06] been playing so great lately,

[00:34:08] you know, players like that. But

[00:34:09] anyway, I think that team is solid. So

[00:34:10] here's the 92 team.

[00:34:12] So we've got David Robinson, Patrick

[00:34:14] Ewing. I love it that you left

[00:34:16] Leighton off that. I love it. No, no,

[00:34:19] he sucks.

[00:34:20] David Robinson, Patrick Ewing, Larry

[00:34:22] Bird, Scotty Pippen, Michael Jordan,

[00:34:25] Clyde Drexler, Karl Malone, John

[00:34:27] Stockton, Chris Mullin,

[00:34:28] Charles Barkley, Magic Johnson and

[00:34:31] Christian Leighton. What will nothing

[00:34:34] would ever be better than that team.

[00:34:36] It's impossible. You know, you know the

[00:34:37] problem with that team is for

[00:34:39] everybody is the attitude that this

[00:34:41] team has compared to like,

[00:34:43] I think Brun and them think that

[00:34:45] they're the best. They think

[00:34:47] that they're the best. These cats

[00:34:49] know that they're the best.

[00:34:50] These cats know that they're the

[00:34:52] best and they know that there is

[00:34:54] there is there's nobody on the

[00:34:55] planet that can hang.

[00:34:57] The two, the who is the third

[00:35:00] power forward on here. So you have,

[00:35:03] okay, well there's Karl Malone and

[00:35:05] Charles Barkley. Okay, I was trying to

[00:35:08] see if there was three positions.

[00:35:09] What's got he Pippen?

[00:35:10] A small four. Yeah, he could play

[00:35:12] three bird Pippen and bark or in

[00:35:15] Karl Malone, Chris Mullin and

[00:35:17] Barkley. People be like Chris

[00:35:18] Mullin. Like who's that dude?

[00:35:20] That guy will murder you on you

[00:35:22] up from 40.

[00:35:23] He will with the light shoe of high

[00:35:26] taper fade.

[00:35:27] But any of these guys in their prime

[00:35:31] would take out any of the guys on

[00:35:33] the first one.

[00:35:34] I think you're right, man. I mean,

[00:35:35] this is the best of the best and

[00:35:37] they were the ones that introduced

[00:35:39] professional basketball to the

[00:35:41] Olympics because before then it was an

[00:35:42] amateur sport. Remember it was

[00:35:43] amateur. So anyway, I just thought

[00:35:46] that would be fun to run through

[00:35:47] them again. Really good both good

[00:35:49] teams, but they're the best

[00:35:50] opponent points differential, you know.

[00:35:54] So they won their first game.

[00:35:56] This is the dream team in 92 by 79

[00:35:59] then 44, 60 points, 41, 38 and

[00:36:03] the final was like 32 points.

[00:36:05] So they were blasting people,

[00:36:07] dude.

[00:36:07] But you know what's even funny

[00:36:08] about that stuff is too is like

[00:36:10] there are other teams outside of

[00:36:12] that. Like the best dunk ever as

[00:36:16] far as I'm concerned in

[00:36:17] professional sports. I mean,

[00:36:19] in professional basketball that

[00:36:20] was played throughout a game is

[00:36:23] wasn't it Vince Carter that

[00:36:24] dude in the middle of a game over

[00:36:26] that do you know that was in

[00:36:29] the Olympics?

[00:36:29] Yeah, that's what I'm saying.

[00:36:30] That's what I'm saying is like

[00:36:32] I mean even when when Carter

[00:36:34] dunked on that guy, I mean,

[00:36:36] do you know what that says to

[00:36:37] the rest of the world is like we

[00:36:39] don't only just crap on you.

[00:36:42] We do it in style.

[00:36:44] Yeah, there's a picture of it

[00:36:45] right there.

[00:36:45] Moose is playing.

[00:36:46] I mean, it's ridiculous.

[00:36:48] I mean, the fact that

[00:36:49] that.

[00:36:52] I mean, can you imagine looking

[00:36:54] that guy in the face after that?

[00:36:56] Pretty amazing.

[00:36:57] Pretty amazing.

[00:36:57] Pretty amazing.

[00:36:58] All right, buddy.

[00:36:59] We got to roll out of here.

[00:37:00] Anything else you want to

[00:37:02] get into before we leave?

[00:37:04] Well, I hope you have a

[00:37:05] wonderful day.

[00:37:06] Thank you.

[00:37:06] I do want to do one quick

[00:37:07] thing is my dad's 77th

[00:37:09] birthday today.

[00:37:10] Today?

[00:37:10] Yes.

[00:37:10] So happy birthday, Mr.

[00:37:12] Tommy East, the founder,

[00:37:14] Big T, the founder of our

[00:37:16] company, the the dude that

[00:37:18] holds it down, that created

[00:37:20] the East family legacy.

[00:37:22] Yeah, this is the dude.

[00:37:23] This is the guy.

[00:37:24] It's the dude.

[00:37:24] So I asked him this morning.

[00:37:25] I said, Dad, what can we

[00:37:26] do for your birthday?

[00:37:27] He was like, son, just leave

[00:37:28] me alone.

[00:37:29] Stay out of my way.

[00:37:30] Just leave me alone.

[00:37:31] You know what?

[00:37:31] I can relate to that.

[00:37:32] I feel like that sometimes.

[00:37:34] Do you really?

[00:37:34] Don't you?

[00:37:35] Like sometimes you're like.

[00:37:36] Of course.

[00:37:36] Well, you're kind of a

[00:37:39] guy that needs attention

[00:37:40] though.

[00:37:40] That is not true.

[00:37:41] You may be like, yeah,

[00:37:43] I need somebody to talk to me.

[00:37:45] Because Jennifer asked me today.

[00:37:47] My 50th birthday is getting ready to come up.

[00:37:49] She said, please let us plan something.

[00:37:50] Let's do some of say, you know what?

[00:37:52] I don't need anything planned.

[00:37:53] Just just go about it like it's a normal day.

[00:37:57] When nothing happens,

[00:37:58] you're going to be like, Jennifer,

[00:38:00] I cannot believe she said the same thing.

[00:38:02] I said, I promise you.

[00:38:03] Just believe me.

[00:38:04] There's nothing.

[00:38:05] You know, if a bunch of people

[00:38:07] want to get together, let's eat some dinner.

[00:38:08] Let's go play golf or do a little tennis thing.

[00:38:10] You know, that'd be fine.

[00:38:11] But don't plan anything.

[00:38:13] This crazy elaborate, you know, let's

[00:38:16] we got to get dressed up in a don't plan a thing.

[00:38:18] Let's see how this plays out.

[00:38:20] Do not plan a thing.

[00:38:21] Anyway, Hank, happy birthday to my old man.

[00:38:24] I hope you got many, many more ahead of you.

[00:38:26] And my mom is in Hawaii for my cousin's wedding,

[00:38:30] which is happening right now.

[00:38:32] And so she is coming back Friday from her 10 day

[00:38:36] Hawaiian excursion.

[00:38:37] So I look forward to seeing my mom in a couple of days
