[00:00:02] What you want, when you want it, where you want it. This is The MESH. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to episode 108, volume 6 of your unofficial first day of spring edition of Big Fan.
[00:00:28] Hank, close your eyes and picture this. The temperature is 78 degrees without a cloud in the sky. The breeze is blowing just perfectly that is strong enough to feel great on your skin, but not strong enough to mess up your jailed back hair. And I just picked up my taxes from the accountant. The Final Four is on this weekend and I have all four teams still alive.
[00:00:53] And I went to church last night, so my soul is alive and rejuvenated. Ladies and gentlemen, I am a big fan of spring. Hello ladies and gentlemen, my name is Hank Imer and I'm a big fan of sitting on a front screen porch watching basketball in 70 degree weather. watching monsoon levels of rain rinse the world free of pollen. Bye bye pollen. Opening day, opening day, huge fan.
[00:01:24] It's bigger than the first day of spring for me. Opening day? But it is like the first day of spring, so it's easy to say that. Unfortunately, your Braves are 0-9 or whatever they are. God, they cannot hit. They cannot hit. It's painful. The Dodgers look like they might go undefeated all year. They're like, Ohtani is like, should be on another level. I mean, that dude is amazing. But don't you feel like when it's 78 degrees, the breeze is blowing just right. It just doesn't make you just feel good.
[00:01:54] It makes me feel good. It makes me feel good that it's light outside too. Fair. You know what I mean? Like you hit seven o'clock and you haven't been in the dark for two hours. Right. So, I mean, I love, I like the warm weather, but I also love the sunlight. Sunlight. Yes. Yes. I'm more, I'm a light kind of fellow too, especially, you know, when you get out of work at 530 and they're still light, cause you know, it has been pitch black, dark and cold and all those things that I do not like. Like this Hawaiian boy does not like.
[00:02:24] Right. We need light. We need warmth. We need kindness. We need the sun. In this world, in this realm. Okay. So, buddy, it's been a couple of weeks since I saw you last, last time I saw it. Let's tell the guests we were supposed to be in here last week. I show up, Moose, our producer is here. Right. We call you and you just forgot. You didn't even make it. You didn't say, oh man, I try to call whatever. You just said, oh man, I'm sorry. Sorry guys. Just forgot.
[00:02:52] Rounds on me is my exact words. So, uh, you will duck those rounds forever. Y'all take me up on that for sure. I will be happy to, to handle that, but let's talk a little bit about spring. And over the last three weeks, actually for me, it's been going on for the last six, six weeks. As we get older, Hank, we run into these maladies with our body elements, if you will.
[00:03:12] So, I'm working on a six month kind of a tennis elbow and a probably quad, dricep, uh, injury run at about 68%. I don't think that's as many syllables as you thought it was. Quad, dricep. So, um, six, 68%. So anyway, I've tried, and I know you've got some wrist action going on. You got a hip action. What else? You got something going on with your neck? No, no, no. I mean, what is happening over here? No, no.
[00:03:39] I've got a little bit of hip, like tightness that I'm dealing with. And when we were playing the other day, I kind of jankied up my wrist a little bit, but, uh, you know, I'm not ducking from it. Oh, okay. I'm not ducking from it. I'm not either. I'm still out there, you know, on that court grinding, grinding. Yeah. So I'm going to just go down a, like a quick list of what I've tried for this tennis elbow, because they say the only thing you can really do to heal it is take time off. God knows we're not doing that. And we are not going to stop doing that. No. You got to push, push, push.
[00:04:08] So started with lima beans out of the freezer. Throw it on the elbow at night. Lima beans. The frozen lima beans. These are true. Oh, you're talking about the frozen. I thought you meant like. No, no, no, no, no. I'm talking about the bag of frozen lima beans. Okay. Come back from the courts, throw it on the elbow. Let's just try to take the edge off. Just freeze her up a little bit. Get the inflammation down. Get the inflammation down. Once the lima beans are unfrozen, grab the black eyed pea bag, throw it on the elbow. You understand what I'm saying? Yeah. Concoction. Frozen vegetables.
[00:04:36] You could use ice or a cold pack or something, but. Nah, I'd rather have the lima beans. Okay. All right. So, you know, that works a little bit. Then we're hooked up to one of these. I think they're called Tim's. Tim's machine. Tim's machine. Bang, bang, bang. Run that on the elbow a little bit. Doesn't do a thing. Nothing. Don't even touch it. Okay. Get prescribed a steroid. Let's go through the steroid week. One week, takes it down a little bit. Back inflamed. Don't see any muscle growth either. Look at me looking down at my arms.
[00:05:04] You thought that there's no muscle growth. Yeah. No steroids that's going to make this guy look any better than he already looks. Um, what else did we do? Any ibuprofen in here? Ibuprofen every now and then. Yes. Also, I had a heating pad. We tried the heating pad. I don't think you're supposed to put the heating pad on there. Right. I don't believe. Aggravates it. Yeah. I think that. Yeah. So then went to biokinetics in Hickory. Great place. Great guy. He gave me dry needling. Yeah. Nothing. No touch.
[00:05:34] So now we're experimenting with things from nature. Okay. Things from nature. You ever heard of THC? Yes, I have. Well, um, this isn't THC, but maybe an offshoot, maybe like CBD hemp product. That's a patch. And one of our buddies. PHC. Yeah. Something like this. One of our buddies has given me a few and I put up, see, it's on my elbow right now. I know this buddy. And I know that. You know what? Okay. So you've seen this before. I've seen that before.
[00:06:04] And actually it really has been taking the edge off slightly, but now we're down to. It's just dumbing down your pain receptors, man. Maybe that's what it is. It's still going on. My elbow is just high right now. Kind of. Yeah. It's high. So this is what I've, you know, this, nothing's working, Hank. I'm not going to take time off. So I read somewhere on the internet where everything is factual that if I go out into the yard and find some clover and a little sage and there's some other incense or some
[00:06:34] other like a nature, natural materials, I crushed them all up. Then I light them and put my elbow over there for three minutes. It's supposed to do something to loosen up the tendons and the joints and remove my arthritis from the subo. We're doing this inside the house or outside? No, we're going outside on the deck, on the dock or deck, you know, probably around 1030 in the evening time when the moon is out. Oh my gosh. When the moon is out. Do you understand? Yeah. And the spirits are alive. Okay. People don't want this to happen. Let's get back to your medication.
[00:07:03] So you're burning sage and grass clippings as far as we're concerned. After I cut the grass, I go out and gather some clippings, find some sage in the pantry, you know, underneath the full moon. So do you feel like this is helped? Light it up. It does nothing. It makes me cough because I inhale some of it. It makes me cough. It gives me a very small buzz. But besides that, I mean, I'm just, I'm down to the nitty gritty. I don't know what else to do except just quit playing. You should do that. You won't be missed. You should.
[00:07:33] This is the stupid part. It's like, why aren't you quitting? Just the competitiveness of it. And I like being out there with y'all. It's fun. And it's just about being competitive. Like, what the hell am I going to do if I'm not competing against y'all scrubs? Get in the water. Try to Michael Phelps it. I've been swimming a little bit too. I mean, you know, not as... You got a tennis match tonight? No. Okay. Where our team... Did y'all play last night? It got rained out. Okay. But I mean, good for us. I don't...
[00:08:01] You don't want to take another L, man. Don't worry about us. It's been L after L after L. Don't worry about us. So what's next on the line for the elbow? I have acupuncture, the real acupuncture with Bridgett next Thursday at 930. Next Thursday. Next Thursday at 930. We'll give it a whirl. Because I feel it at all times. Like, it never goes... How close do we get into amputation? I mean, if the sage and the incense and the acupuncture over the next week does not work, that's the next step. I'm going to be in on that surgery.
[00:08:29] I want to get the first cut on that one. I want to get the first cut on that one. I love it. So you're telling me you're not feeling as old as me? Your maladies are just very minor. These are day by day, just kind of if they get tweaked. Listen, I ain't no punk. I ain't no punk. Okay. Okay. Well, if you want to come over tonight at 1030 for the seance. The saging? The saging seance. Come on by. I'm good. I will light it up for you. Because next thing we know, you're going to be talking about people in the sky. And I don't want to talk about that. Well... I hope you get better. Thank you.
[00:08:59] I appreciate you, buddy. I appreciate you. And you know, we got other stuff going on. Final Four. You know, a couple weeks ago, you and I, with our buddies, went on a couple fantastic trips. Yep. And we haven't really told our audience about the trips yet. Why don't you enlighten them with all your adventures? So we went down to Folly Beach. Okay. So there were eight of us. We got to stay in a buddy's in-laws, family house, you know.
[00:09:29] And it was great. You know, when you're with your high school buddies, immediately it's on. You know what I mean? Like, most of these guys I'm with all the time, because a lot of them are Hickory guys. Yeah. I think only one was... Yeah. Only one. Birchfield. Really? Okay. You know what? But still, when you get somewhere outside your zip code and you're hanging around the house, it's just magic. It really is. It's just magic. It's just magic.
[00:09:57] And so we went down there, got down there on Thursday evening and stocked up the family truckster with food, beverages, everything else. Fireworks. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. And, you know, started watching basketball that evening, went into Friday, went on a run on the beach with a couple of my buds, came back, watched basketball on the deck until about two.
[00:10:27] Then we go down to Taco Boy. I don't know if you've been to Taco Boy. Yes, I have. All right. Get something to eat there. I had a salad. That's how you know you're getting old. I had a salad. All right. So we hung out there for a little bit, went back to the house, grilled steaks. It was amazing. Next day, rinse, repeat. But we did one of the best, the funniest parts of the whole evening is we started talking about athleticism. Of course. Why does it always seem to come up when you're on a guy's trip? Competition.
[00:10:56] I was a better athlete than you and he was a better athlete than me, blah, blah, blah. So we had a friend, Michael Banks, whose son Will is at Davidson, right? And he is a baseball player. Yes. Well, Will is a big, dumb animal. Okay. He's six, six, two 30 of idiot, but that cat can jump pure vertical. You try to get him to dunk off of one foot. He can because he's 25 feet tall, right? But he off two feet, huge vertical.
[00:11:26] I think like 39. Whoa. Yeah. It's huge for incredible. So he's Michael showed us a video of this. Okay. So next thing you know, Hey, I can, I got a pretty good vertical. Right? So we have, we have video of each of us. Okay. And I think Michael ended up winning, right? Worst vertical. Guess who it is. So it's me, Michael, Jeff Prince, CJ, Mark Hugrich.
[00:11:55] Those are the people that just, who's got the worst verticals. CJ Heinz easily. Lock. Easily. Lock and low. That dude looked like he barely knew how to walk. How much day, how high did he get on the ground? Are we talking about three to three inches tops? Yeah. I could, I could see it. Shirt came up over his bed. I've got it in slow-mo. I'll show it to you here in a minute. I love it. I love it. Yes. It's ridiculous, but we had a good time. Did it feel like you were soaring through the air? And then when you actually see it on video, you're like, oh my gosh, I barely left the earth.
[00:12:24] Well, you know, the bad thing is, is when you start saying, if I point my toes up, it'll look like I'm much higher than I really am. So we had some of that conversation, but it was, you know, it was a ton of fun. And you know, the tough thing is the last two years we've been in the mountains. It's awful nice to drive home an hour. Fair. After that weekend. True. Coming back four, four and a half, you know, cause you were at the beach. They're the same thing, bro.
[00:12:49] So, but the problem with your beach trip is you got more guys and you have another set of guys. Yes. Two sets of guys. High school and college all combining together. I was talking about your brother's crew too. So three sets of guys. Three sets of guys. Yes. So let's hear about yours. Oh, I'll keep it short and sweet. So it, you know that you're getting just a little bit older when the location that you choose for your rental house at the beach needs to be close to a grocery store.
[00:13:17] So people can go and back and forth to pick up groceries, not beer and stuff, but we're talking about like Metamucil and vitamins, you know, and extra water. You know, uh, what else did we, we picked up like a Frisbee, you know, exactly. Yes, exactly. More of these patches for my sore elbow. So we, the proximity of our home to the Bolinose, which is in Cherry Grove, we could be there in literally 14.8 seconds.
[00:13:45] You go out the back door, Bolinose is across the street. We're on the beach, but you know, Bolinose is one street. Yeah. So we are literally right there. Also a hundred yards from multiple bars and a couple of restaurants on the beach. It was the perfect location. Had a little pool. We set up shop like you did television outside on the deck, watching the ball games, watching the people as they cruise down the beach. And then we'd take a little every afternoon, set up shop at Bolinose and just watch the
[00:14:13] people come and go at the gift shop upstairs, you know, through the meat aisle, you know, wherever they were going, we were going to watch these people. Does Bolinose have a bar? No, no bar. I mean, if they had one, you just sit up on the, sit at the benches. They had benches outside and we just sit there and get an ice cream cone, like old farts and just watch. This sounds horrible. Just to watch the people go by. So anyway, that's where our trip has come to. Still lovely trip. I mean, just great, great time.
[00:14:42] A lot of lottery tickets. You know, a lot of lottery tickets were purchased. Found a cool oyster bar. Listened to some live music. Boiled peanuts? Of course, boiled peanuts. Interrupted a reception. Find couple getting where they had the reception at some little bar called Duck Dive. We go up there, two guys playing guitar, our kind of music, decide just we need to be part of the wedding. So we get up there, maybe sing a little bit, maybe dance a little bit. No. Yes. So anyway, fabulous time. Shirt stay on?
[00:15:12] Half. So it just came like one of the havesies, you know what I'm saying? Like a halter? Yeah, like a halter. And then brought it back down. It's close. Close from coming all the way up, but it was a little nipply outside. So I just kind of, cause this was outside venue. Okay. You know, so had to leave it kind of halfway. But anyway, great, great time. Had by all. Got to see a bunch of our buddies. Didn't get to see one buddy from Hickory who normally makes the trip. His name is Hunter Correll. And as you know, he ran this fine establishment for 30 years. He was the establishment.
[00:15:41] He was the establishment for 30 years. And so his wonderful restaurant had their last serving last Sunday. Really the last dinner service was Saturday. And so Hunter wasn't able to come to the beach with us cause he was taking care of closing the restaurant down. And so we got to go down there and see him. The only reservation they had left, which we got two weeks prior was a four o'clock sitting, you know, so we're there four o'clock Saturday afternoon. All the tables are booked.
[00:16:07] When we get there, 150 people are in line waiting to get the tables that weren't reserved. I mean, it was a line around the block. It was crazy. So of course we go in there, we see some old Hickory boys who had been shuckers many moons ago. Like Chu was in there and he was shucking. His son was in there. So that was cool. Um, Brandon Mallard and Jason Wright and some other Hickory dudes had been there the week before full apron, the whole nine giving back to the oyster bar. Anthony.
[00:16:36] Yes, absolutely. So it was kind of bittersweet for hunters. So I see Hunter give a big hug immediately. I was like, how are you holding up? And he was like, I'm fine, man. I'm doing good. I'm doing good. Yeah. And then, you know, as the night progressed, cause we were there from four to about six thirty or seven and then we left. But as the evening was ending for us and we took pictures, I could tell it was becoming an emotional time for Hunter. Yeah. For all of us actually.
[00:17:04] Cause you know, a lot of my time right out of college in Raleigh, I spent at that oyster bar with Hunter. Yeah. You know, and all our buddies, tons of them work there and everybody has a 42nd street oyster bar story. So it was kind of bittersweet. However, for Hunter, his last day was Sunday. He flies to Florida for a two week vacation on Monday. So I got to see a picture of him yesterday. I saw it. Yes. With a 42nd street oyster bar koozie sitting in the pool looking like he is very happy and content with his life.
[00:17:34] I can tell you right now, he better stay in that pool to hydrate cause I know he's dehydrating every day of those two weeks. No doubt about it. No doubt about it. So Hunter, we're very proud of you. Proud of all the work you put in and we wish you the best luck in your future endeavors. I know you will be a success at whatever it is, my friend. For sure. Yes, absolutely. All right. Talking about successes, Hank. So a quick segue. Yesterday, we lost one of the finest actors in American history.
[00:18:02] Let's say, and I'll put him up against kind of anybody on a, let's take a 10 year sample size from, let's go 84 to 94. The gentleman's name that passed was Val Kilmer. Right? And so I don't know how familiar you are with Val Kilmer's work. Of course, you know the obvious, that's the top guns. And I love it. How you come in here and try to make it like, I don't know if you understand English. I mean, that's what you're saying to me.
[00:18:32] Like, I know, I don't know if you understand how important this guy is to cinema. Who do you think you are? I have a little bit more knowledge when it comes to the theater, the theater, than you do. Okay. So anyway, I'm just going to run down his first movie in 84. I don't know if you saw this movie, but this is a movie that you would love. It's called Top Secret. It's kind of like- Of course I've seen it. Okay. This is what I'm talking about. So anyway, that was his first movie. You have to imagine this.
[00:18:59] His first movie and he gets the lead, the lead. So to me, it was one of those silly, dumb movies, but hilarious. It's like the naked guns. Yes. The airplanes. I mean, so guys, if you haven't seen Top Secret, it's Val Kilmer's first movie. It's amazing. Please go check it out. It's hilarious. You would love it. Then he goes from 84, Top Secret, to Real Genius, another fantastic movie. After that, he gets the nod for Top Gun. Yeah.
[00:19:26] Following Top Gun, he goes into, and this is a kid movie, but still, what a wonderful performance he puts on, it's called Willow. I don't know if you remember that from back in the day. Following Willow, we're going in, now he's Jim Morrison of The Doors. Yeah. Fabulous. We're going next, True Romance. Then we hit probably his finest movie, his acting. This is where everyone knows him the best as Doc Holliday in Tombstone. Right. Right.
[00:19:55] We'll go a little bit further, then we go Batman Forever. Everybody gave him heck that he was a terrible Batman. I didn't think he was that bad. I thought those movies kind of sucked. I thought the movies were terrible. The movies were terrible. I thought he might be the best Bruce Wayne. He was a great Bruce Wayne. Then Heat, which I just absolutely love that movie. Yeah, I like the Heat. I like the Heat. So good. You got the Island of Dr. Moreau followed by the Ghost in the Darkness. That's the one with the lights. And then The Saint. The Saint is so underrated. That's a 13 year run right there. That's pretty solid.
[00:20:24] And most of those movies are movies that everyone has seen. The Bangers. The Bangers. And then he tops it off with the last Top Gun Maverick in 2022. So anyway, I mean, can you put, who else would live up to that quality of acting? Tom Cruise would. And actually, somebody gave me a list of Brad Pitt movies. He had a 10 year run that was pretty solid. Actually, I can probably find that. So go ahead and tell me why I'm looking for that. Your favorite, your favorite one. Tom Cruise probably would. You know what I mean?
[00:20:52] Because he's, he's probably, you know, with all his Mission Impossible and all that, you know, I mean, risky business, you know, with all, with all, and Top Gun, I mean, how they're related there. Absolutely. It's gotta be, he's gotta be up there with them too. I mean, he'd probably be up. He might be number one on Mount Rushmore, Tom Cruise. Here's Brad Pitt's lineup from 94 to 2005, Legends of the Fall, seven. He was also in True Romance, 12 Monkeys.
[00:21:22] He had Fight Club, Snatch, Ocean's Eleven, Troy and Mr. and Ms. Smith. And that's not all of them. That's just the main ones. It's pretty solid. It's pretty solid. And then, you know, you got the Pacinos and De Neros and those guys that are gonna, you know, have, but then you also have Denzel Washington, who's gonna probably be right there with you too. True. It'd be interesting to put them all up. Let's take 10 years of their heyday and see who's got the best.
[00:21:49] Maybe we'll do that over, maybe we'll do that tonight while we're crushing up the grass and the incense. Okay. You come on over about 1030. I'll be there. Let's do it. Okay. Well, anyway, Val Kilmer, here's to you. Pour one out on the block for you. Yeah, you are, you were and are a legend. So thank you for all the work that you've given us. And it was pretty cool that he was willing to do the last Top Gun because of the condition he was in and he was like shielding himself from the world, which is kind of a big story. They were kind of shielding him from the world.
[00:22:16] And he was willing to put himself out there and put him in the position that he's in. So watch the documentary about him. So interesting. But you know, he, his life was crazy. He got invited. This one, he's like 16 years old. He's an actor and he's in high school. And so he's in acting class or whatever. And so he's in the middle of a play just for his high school. Well, the guy that did the Godfather, I cannot remember. What's the dude's name? Anyway, the big time director. Scorsese?
[00:22:46] Not Scorsese. But anyway, saw him and asked him to be in the Outsiders. And he turned it down. He said, I can't give up on my high school crew here. You know, that I'm doing a play. I got to finish the play. Who knows who he would have been? But they asked him to be in them. You think they would have Ralph Macchio instead of Val Kilmer? Speaking of Ralph Macchio, are new Karate Kids coming out? I heard there's new Karate Kid. Oh my. Karate Kid legends. Are you going to see it? It's going to suck.
[00:23:15] It's going to suck because it's going to be like, it's going to be a kid that's a Karate Kid and they bring in old Ralph Macchio to tell him what it was like. Come on now. I will be there on a Tuesday. I'll be there Tuesday matinee. I got to see it, man. I might go with you on a Tuesday if you invite me. I will invite you. We've never had this happen before. Let's go to the theater together. Popcorn on me. Yeah? Don't be drinking beer there, Hank. Because you know they sell beer in the movie theater now. I don't want to see you with beer in your hand. Popcorn, Coca-Cola, Twistlers.
[00:23:45] Who are you? You're going to have a baby bottle in there. Popcorn, Coca-Cola, Twistlers. Do you understand? I got it. Okay. Very good. All right, Val. This one's for you. So what else been going on? Let's talk a little high school stuff. Harris. Wow. Moving on up. Got to start the other day. Yep. You got to start the other day. Baseball. Great. It's funny because it's managing a lot of stuff. You know what I mean? Like, you got to manage your nerves. You got to manage the team.
[00:24:15] And you know, and I think it rises everybody to, you know, to play better because they don't want to lose a position. They don't want, you know, I mean, everybody's playing and it's a very, the good thing is it's a healthy competition. So he's got to play a little bit on varsity, which has been cool. It's a cool environment with this, but he's trying to figure out, you know, you put a freshman with seniors and juniors and you got to figure out what your role is and how you're viewed and what work you have to do to get to that point. So it's been cool to watch him.
[00:24:45] He's been working hard. Yeah. And you know, but the team's been working hard. It's good. Good. Yeah. Team pretty good. They're 500. I would say, I mean, we've, we've had, we had a tough loss on Tuesday and I'm not a blame the refs kind of, you know, the umpire kind of guy, but there's, there's some calls that I would like to have video review of to check over because they were awful. They looked a little bit one sided, but you know, they, they have like glimpses of real
[00:25:15] good stuff and then, you know, they'll have some rough innings. So, but good kids and they're, they're playing real well. I mean, they're playing well. Well, good. Um, so I was talking to you a little bit before the podcast started. So Lucy Rose who just got her license in December and is a fantastic driver. Just really, really good. She has to travel between Lincolnton and Huntersville for dance four or five days a week. And she's driving herself. Always made me worry because that's a long way. It's a 30 to 35 minute drive, but she has done so, so well.
[00:25:42] So on Sunday she has dance practice and you get the call that you just, no parent wants. So I hear Jennifer, I'm upstairs folding clothes or doing something. You weren't folding clothes. You were sleeping. No, I was doing something to help around the household chores. And I heard what are you okay? Are you okay? And so immediately, you know, you hear those words like, Oh my gosh, what's going on? So I run downstairs. Jennifer's kind of frantic. And she said, Lucy Rose has been in a car accident.
[00:26:10] And of course then I'm like, where is she? Where is she? Let's go. Let's go. So Jennifer remained calm and got all the details of where she was and what had happened. And she's like, and I was like, let's go. Give me the address. We're going. So jump in the car. And Jennifer proceeds to tell me that Lucy Rose, where they were five minutes from the studio. Just right. Somebody else. Her and her good buddy that she dances with that they're five minutes from the studio.
[00:26:35] And a car pulled out right in front of her and like took out the front quarter panel of her car. But she was going pretty fast. So her car ended up on top of the dude's hood. Yikes. You know what I'm saying? Yeah. And so. Like Duke's a hazard. Yes. So can you imagine how scared these kids are? Yeah. So she's had her license for two and a half months. And unfortunately, she gets into this car accident, but I was so proud of her. She's remained very cool and calm.
[00:27:04] Um, so, cause we're not there to tell her what to do. I mean, the car accident happens. And then, so they get off on the side of the road. Thank goodness for one of her dance instructors, Anye happened to be like two minutes from the scene. And so she was there immediately to help, help them. Uh, but we get to the scene, the car is off on the side. The other car is in front and it's off on the side. I can't see the damage cause we come up from behind, but Lucy Rose and her friend Gianna are sitting there very calm. Anye's with them and Anye's fiance.
[00:27:33] Just, you know, you could tell everybody's nerves are kind of shot. So we give hugs, making sure everybody's okay. And then the police officer immediately came up to me. He was on the scene and he was like, I just want to let you know your daughter is not at fault. She had nothing to do with this guy. Basically just turned right into her car. We're just happy that everybody's safe. Yeah. You know? So we get through that and we talked to the other family and he took full responsibility. The cop wrote him a ticket right there.
[00:28:01] And so Lucy, anyway, so she has this experience now that she's been through this. It's no fun, but she got through it and she remained calm and cool. So anyway, you don't wish an accident on any kid, but she got through it and life will go on. Like some of my clients or whatever, I was telling the story and they were like, she probably never wants to drive again. And I was like, no, she wants her car back now. I mean, she's ready to get in her car now, but she'll be more cautious. Maybe. Maybe. Yes.
[00:28:30] She would have done anything about that. She's just going. No, but I mean about others. Yes. You know what I mean? Like looking to make sure people are moving around, not her driving, but watching others. She did tell me this yesterday. So we went to go to the tow yard where the car is to get all of her belongings out of the car because they're taking it to the adjuster today to see if it's totaled or not, which I think it's going to be totaled. So we're getting all this stuff out. And she was like, man, if I would have just put it to the spot, to the side when she said she could see him coming in the split second. She said, if I would have just pulled it off the road.
[00:29:00] But she was like, I hit a pole. She said there was a sign right there. She would like, she said, if I would have done it, I would have gone right into that sign. And it would have been her, like it had been her fault. That's right. You know what I mean? So I was like, Lucy, you don't even sweat that girl. You did everything you were supposed to do. But it was sad because that's her first car. She loves this car. And so we're gathering all this stuff out there and she just, I, you know, she took a couple minutes just to look at it one last time. Oh, it's breaking my heart. Now you get to buy another car. Another car.
[00:29:26] So the guy that we got the car from, I called him and he said, hey, man, come on over here. I got one even better than the last one I saw with you, man. So anyway, we're going to check him out next week and see after everything, all the insurance is taken care of what we need to do. But anyway, proud of you, Lucy Rose. Proud of you too, Gianna. Gianna was the wingman. And Anya. I love Anya. I love Anya. She's fabulous. She's always there for the girls. I mean, she's an amazing person. She's an amazing teacher. Oh, absolutely. Absolutely. So anyway, that's some high school stuff.
[00:29:55] We got the baseball. We got car accidents. I mean, prom is right around the corner. So, you know, it's prom time. Anyway, so that's. Yeah. Do sophomores go to prom? No. Yeah. So there's no problem in your future. No, no problem for me. Gianna, Lucy Rose's friend, she had prom that Saturday before the accident. So she was, you know, after the accident, she was telling me all about her promise. She goes to St. Stephen's. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Which I find it funny that they're having it so early. So early, right? Yeah, I know. That's kind of crazy. Because we always had it in May, I thought. Right. Didn't we?
[00:30:25] Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So that's the high school summary. So what else we got coming up this weekend, buddy? Anything fun? Uh, there is a crawfish boil that I'm going to, which is always fun. You got to eat like a million of them. Sure. To get filled. You can eat three. Yes. So that's always fun. And you know, it's the false, like summer heat that gets people full. Harris talking about, you know, we have a jet ski and he wants to go out on the lake. He was like, let's go out on the lake.
[00:30:54] And I want to be like, the lake's like 58 degrees, dude. Right. He's like, no, no, it'll be fun. And so, uh, you know, just trying to get everything ready for spring. Because I mean, it's getting ready. Like got to cut grass. Yeah. You know, got to do all that stuff. So I don't really, we don't have any big, big plans. We've got a game tomorrow night. Okay. At Hickory. We play Fred T Ford at Hickory, uh, tomorrow night. So we have that. And then we're going to celebrate my mother's birthday on Sunday. I saw that on the social media streams. Happy birthday to Barbara. Yep. Yes.
[00:31:24] So, uh, she was over at a friend's house yesterday. Okay. And she was stepping out of her house, fell, rolled her ankle and is laying on the couch right now. So, uh, Do I need to bring my lima bean packs over and put it on her ankle? No, no, no. She's got plenty of lima bean packs, but, uh, you know, I hope she recovers nicely. Yes. I hope so too. Well, happy birthday to you, Barb. Uh, tonight, Hank, the Hickory FC, our soccer club, football club, whatever you like to call them. Yep. They are unveiling their new jerseys tonight at Massimoore.
[00:31:53] So you're not going to hear this before the event, but anyway, the Hickory folks come out, support the Hickory FC team last year. You're going to say it anyway. Yes, of course I'm going to say it. They were champions last year in our division. Champion. And so hopefully we will run it back and bring another championship to Hickory because remember the energy that they brought to the community last year. That was amazing because it's nothing that we've ever had. We've got the crawdads. We've gotten behind the crawdads for so many years. You know, the crawdads have been here now since 1993. Yeah. Can you believe that?
[00:32:23] It's amazing. It's awesome. Um, but now we've got a football club soccer to support as well. And you know, last year they had, they thought they'd draw like a thousand people. You know, there were 3000 people coming to those games. Yeah. And you know, the funny thing is, is some of the guys are coming back. Some of the players are coming back. I was talking to, um, the ownership the other day and they were saying that, you know, they've got a handful of guys coming back, which will mean the energy and the expectation is going to be very high. Sure.
[00:32:53] So it's going to be interesting to see. And our coach is back, you know, the LR soccer coach is back. Awesome. Phenomenal. And, uh, so it's going to be, uh, hopefully the pieces to the puzzle are there to continue to like be successful. Yes. So we've got the unveiling of the new Jersey's today. You're MCing, right? Yeah. I'm MCing. Got to go over my script here right after this Hank. Okay. And then tomorrow, a little golf action, Saturday, final four. And then it rolls us right into next week. It's masters week.
[00:33:22] So there's a par three masters tournament Wednesday night followed by the masters draft. Yes. I have heard. Okay. Are you going to come? Do I ever know you do not say he went, I'll come to it. I just can't, I never participate in the golf. Yeah. I always have like, I'll come and yeah, there's just so many dudes. That's huge. That like the, uh, the, uh, whatever the lottery to get guys. Like, I think it's funny because I'd get like the guy that's one 53 in the world, you know? And I'm like, eh.
[00:33:51] It's funny about that thing. Cause you were one of, I know you were invited to it if you came or not. I can't recall, but it's, we had, we've been doing this for maybe 10, 12 years. I went to the first three years. Right. When there were like seven people, like my dad would roll in. Remember? You'd get like nine guys. Nine dudes. Exactly. You'd have like a whole. The story and tiger. Exactly. Yes. Now you're stuck with like, uh, Ian Woosnan or whatever, you know? Pete Stinson or something. Yes. The one dude at the very bottom of the draw. But anyway, we're running that back Wednesday. Yeah.
[00:34:20] Please come. It's always fun. Cause all the stuff in Hickory, you know, right around this time when people could be outside and doing all the events in Hickory, it just makes life just so much more fun. So we're, we're right into that right now. So anyway, I'll look forward to that. And, um, I guess that's got it, my friend. You know, this coming summer, our producer puts together this great lineup of bands at the home. So that's right around the corner as well. I saw the first few, uh, groups that are coming. You got the Fleetwood Mac.
[00:34:50] You got the foreigner one. You got, anyway, it'll be a lot of fun to be out there on a Saturday. Great weather, cold beer, good music. I think it'll be nice. Nice. Yep. Um, who are you picking this weekend? What are we liking? Hard to, hard to get against Duke. Hard to bet against those guys. They're playing so dang good right now. And if Flagg wasn't there, I still would take him, I think. Maybe so. He's bad though. Yeah, but so is Knipple. Yeah, he is. So I'm, I'm taking Duke. Duke, maybe Vegas has them as a five point favorite.
[00:35:19] I think you, I think it's going to be nip and tuck. I think Duke gets it done though. And then the other one, I, Florida just seems like to be this team of destiny. They're just squeaking by, but they keep getting by. And so I think Auburn gets them this week. A lot of people do. So that's gonna be a great game. I wonder what that number is. I don't know what Vegas has got that number, but I'm sure it'll be close. I'm sure. So, you know, I've got a Florida Duke final with a Florida cutting nets. Actually, you've got an Auburn Duke final. Who you got cutting nets? Duke. And that pains me. I know you, you know that.
[00:35:46] That, that, but, um, I just think they're, I mean, they did an amazing job of getting person the correct personnel and they didn't know it until the season started, but the dude from Purdue, the dude from Tulane. Yes. Knipple flag their center. I mean, those guys are studs on any other team and they're, they're gel correctly and their chemistry looks like he's the new Krzyzewski, like the new wizard. He's hard to look at, but yeah, that's what it is.
[00:36:15] Well, you're a Carolina fan. So that's what you're going to say. What do you think about the NC State hire? Will Wade. I don't care about Will Wade. You will. When we start whipping that Tar Heel butt. Well, I'll tell you right now. I like history. I'm a history guy. Yeah. And your history has said nothing but bad things around you. So, Will Wade, best of luck. Godspeed. No, I think he'll do well there. I'm glad that he's a part of the Wolfpack Nation now.
[00:36:44] And so, you know, it'll make things a little bit more interesting because he will go get us some players, buddy. He will get us some players. Some C players. By any means necessary, if you know what I'm saying. Wink, wink, wink, wink, wink. We gonna get some players. Okay. Can't wait. All right. Me either. Well, buddy, enjoy your weekend. Good seeing you again. Good seeing you. And to all our big fan listeners, we'll check you out again in two weeks. Until then, peace. Peace. Would break my heart in two.
